Most Challenging Aspect of the Hobby

    1. Space 2. Time 3. Money They're all sort of related, and can all be classified as fitting the hobby in with the rest of my life (and others). I look on challenges more specific to MRRing, like scenery, electrical, etc., as being advantages of being in the hobby.

60 assasinated and CNN says "Separatist group" - But, what's up with CNN??!!

On PBN (Public Radio) this AM, they said that no group has claimed responsibility yet. In the past, it would be a very good assumption that ETA was responsible, but since Spain has backed the US's anti-terrorist actions, it could now be any one of a number of groups. I can't get too hung up...

Need a Good Airbrush and Compressor

Just wondering - I have a small compressor made for inflating tires. Would it be possible to use it to pressurize a tank, which could then be used with an air brush? With or without the compressor running? What of tank could be used for this?

UP takes royalties from model mfg's for name use

Guess I'll have to boycott Union Pacific. Let's see - last year how much did I spend to "Be Specific - Ship Union Pacific"? Oh, never mind.

    New tool

I wonder how hot the lighter actually gets while being etched? If everything could be adjusted so the lighter got no hotter than when it is used (due to the flame) it shouldn't be a problem, right? Of course, if you screwed it up, it could be pretty costly - might damage your $10,000 tool/toy.

    Peco Or Not ?

I use nothing but. The price is higher, but the old saying "You get what you pay for" applies here, and you can get pretty reasonable prices at the various internet dealers (which in my case is the only place I can get Peco track, my LHS doesn't stock it). A common complaint is Peco track is...

    New tool

The TechnoTrends Newletter that I got the web site from says: Etched chocolate - hmmmm. It also indicates that can use inputs from MS Word, Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw.

    New tool

Here's an interesting tool (if you got $10,000 to spare). http://www.versalaser.com/english/index.html Actually, you might be able to justify it if you had a model railroad-related business and the cost was a business expense.

    Railyard Rookie--help wanted

MRC (Model Rectifier Corp.) Track is available as flex, as you mentioned, or "sectional". As far as I know, train sets generally come with enough curve sections to make a full circle and a couple of straight sections to make it into a simple oval. Some brands of sectional are better than...

    Railyard Rookie--help wanted

One of the first upgrades you should consider if you get a 'train set' is to the power supply/controller/power pack/whatchamacallit. As a side note, I still have a 'train set' controller (Atlas I think). It's been in a crawl space for 15+ years, plugged in, turned on, and powering our door bell!

Sorry to hear about having to sell off your stuff, Scooby, but I'm sure everyone here understands that there are more important things in life than the hobby. Hope everything works out for the best. Keep in touch.

    N-scale from inches to feet

    And one furlong is 49-1/2" in N scale, so if you building a 4 ft X 8 ft layout, it's about 1 X 2 furlongs. :D

    Police Tape

I visualize the tape as being about 3" wide, that's about 1/32" in HO scale. I'd try cutting strips off a piece of the real thing - at least the color would be right. As far as the black markings, maybe a fine-point felt tip pen to put stripes on it (before you cut it into the strips.)
