    Another Reverse Loop Question

As the train crosses the gaps into block A, block B changes its polarity to match that of block A. What a reverse module does is change the polarity of its block to match that of any adjacent block you cross into. That is the reason we keep saying the block needs to be a train length long...

    Another Reverse Loop Question

Note that to the right of the bottom gap X I have drawn two gaps to isolate the yard area, which is part of block C. These are essential, but gap X itself can be moved to the left to include the turnouts to other levels if you need the length. Just gap the diverging routes as I did in the...

    Another Reverse Loop Question

Hi Jesso, Got my scanner working and thought I'd post your drawing marked up. Don't know if you've already solved your problem satisfactorily. I drew in some gaps, I called two of them "X" and two others "Y" You have two reversing tracks, the two diagonal lines on the top oval. Since they...

Love that construction style, and you did much more neatly than I did!

Outside of brass, who makes best Steam engines?

So Squidbait, what are your thoughts on the various makes?

    Another Reverse Loop Question

Nevermind what I said before. Because of the arraingement on the bottom part of your plan, I feel the best place to put a reversing section is centered at the back to back turnouts on the top track, yjr diverging routes of which are the tracks you label reversing lines. The one reverse block...

    Tortoise Not Stalling

I don't think the motor ever shuts off. It runs till a point rail is up against a stok rail, then stalls, keeping pressure against the stock rail. The motor is still running (but in place!) Perhaps the one in question is just noisy? Do you still get good pressure against the stock rail?

    Another Reverse Loop Question

Not the rest of the layout Jesso, but another section, most likely the other "end". My layout is probably schematicly similar, I have a double track main with turnback loops at each end, essentially a circle. The loops are reverse sections, and the double track between are wired with the same...

    DCC engine sensitive to shorts

I've had the same type problem with various decoders over the years. Digitrax DH120's, Soundtrax board made for Bachmann 2-8-0, and most recently a decoder of unknown make (haven't opened up the model) in a FM unit I bought from a Canadian hobby shop. CFM something or other. The Digitrax...

    The reversing loop problem...

This is just what I was trying to say, in the other thread about reverse sections. DCC reverse modules really require a different "mind set" about deciding on boundaries of a reverse block than dc. You can include trackage that can also be used without ever requiring reversing, just make your...

    Another Reverse Loop Question

Another thing to keep in mind: A dcc reverse block can extend in length to include parts of other routes which are not themselves part of a reversing section of track. The fact that a train traverses a section of track controlled by a reversing module even tho it is not running thru the part of...

    Another Reverse Loop Question

Actually, you do not have to make the two angled sections reverse blocks. This is the first reaction from those of us who are used to dc wiring. However, if you wire the two parallel tracks connected by those angle sections in the same polarity (ie, both north rails black, both south rails...

    Has to be a Helix

Thanks Duane, you sure brought a really old thread back to life! I still have done nothing around the helix, though I still think I'll build that winter scene I mentioned someday. However I am geting ready to build the turntable which goes over the center of the helix. I am glad to report the...

    Hand laying track and turnouts

Matt, I can't help you in regards to a jig, but don't understand their popularity. I've built many turnouts, and I build them in place. I will write the basics, I suggest the article by Tony Koester for fleshing out the details. It originally appeared in a Model Railroader issue, was...

    Feb 15 Weekly Photo Fun

Nice buildong Kyle. I had an operating session recently for the first time in a really long time, and afterwards as I walked by Blakesly yard I noticed the east bound steam powered trains were lined up in such a fashion as to be screaming out to have their photo taken. Until I build a...
