    Weekly photo fun 9-17-07

Nazgul, I really like your whitewater on the falls, what did you use, cotton? A lot of really nice photos, too many to make mention of. But I do want to say how innovative I thought it was to use an optivisor as a close up lens. What a nut. The cars look great, btw, but that is to be...

Q: Upgrade Zehpyr or get the Empire Builder?

Val, when I was in the market for the programming track booster (to differentiate from a booster for track power) I asked for opinions of the Soundtrax booster versus Tony's booster. The feedback that I got was that they were equivalents. As I mentioned above, I bought Tony's, its done the...

Q: Upgrade Zehpyr or get the Empire Builder?

Val, from back when I researched the Digitrax command stations (a long time ago) I was surprised that the Empire Builder was the only one which did not allow reading back cv's. The Zehpyr does, as does the Chief, Why the mid level unit does not baffles me, unless they have changed this...

    Yard Scenes

There aren't many angles I can get photos from without showing incomplete areas. This photo looks down the length of the yard cropped to get rid of as much unfinished area as possible. The pink and blue foan area will be the engine servicing facility. The main line is to the right, the two...

    Yard Scenes

The throat of the JGL's Blaksley Yard was busy when I snapped this photo. The yard serves a similar purpose on my layout as the New Havens Maybrook Yard. Many railroads meet here, several utilizing trackage rights, to interchange cars. Here, an Erie berk is entering the yard from left, while...

    Ballasting

I ballast just as Doc Wayne does, with one exception, I paint my rail after ballasting. This due mainly to the fact I handlaid for years, it was so easy to ballast prior to laying rail I got in the habit of painting afterwards. Look at much prototype trackage (not all, I know) and you will...

    DPDT switch and turnout

Stay alert and be ready to turn off the power supply the first few times you throw the turnout, some switches weld themselves together due to the electrical arcing caused during disconnect. This is more a problem when using dc than ac to power the turnouts.

    Special lighting effect question.......

Your problem may be that the DH123 only has outputs for the front and rear headlights. The green and purple wires can not be used. You need a DH163 to use those leads.

    Grade crossing accident

I just got back from a short vacation to upstate NY and Toronto, while in NY I stayed at a B&B in Filver Springs. The old Erie main runs though here, the B&B doesn't mention it is across the street. Funny, the owner told us to close the windows and run the ac so the trains wouldn't be so loud...

    Quick and easy "filler" trees

Thanks Wayne, they are just sedum with ground foam on them. That scene was without trees for years and one day I decided to get trees in there, now. I had a bunch of the dried sedum from our garden and was only going to use it for branch material, as the plant is pretty much tops only. But...
