    Childhood railfanning...

The pics I have are of an old (of course) Connie of the Mexican National Railways (FF N de M). It's one of the last operational steamers left in Mexico (it was 20+ years ago...). I'll have to dig the pics out of a boxfull of slides and photos.....

Atlas switches, am i the only one?

The weak point ("electrically" speaking) is the rivet that holds the point rail and allows it to swivel. I used to fix (no more Atlas' for me, thank you...) by lightly tapping on the rivet using a roundhead screw and small hammer to tighten up the rivet somewhat but still allow for the swivel...

    SF F3A & B - Pics & questions....

Update... I got in touch with PCM and was told the unit will operate with one decoder as the B unit is a "slave" and will run off the A unit's control. They told me the LEDs probably have a bad connection... So I mustered up some courage and cracked the A unit open. I checked the voltage at...

    My Miami Layout

Kurt...That layout is coming along real nicely.... :thumb: Did you use a spray gun to paint the track..? What kind of paint did you use..?? I think I may try that when it comes to tackling the remaing track that needs painting. The hand brush method gets old REALLY fast....:curse:

    Samhongsa/Athearn

Is this the Athearn "Genesis" 2-8-2..?? I've heard its finicky at best, and suffered, as I recall, from gear problems. I have no experience with it. I do have a Spectrum YS 2-8-2 and it's a beauty, although too light, so its pulling power is limited.

    Function only decoder problems

Just a shot in the dark..(since you've got no light... :curse:). Is the light function on the decoder similar to the ones used on a regular decoder...That is, does the headlight turn on when going forward, and the rear light when going in reverse..? Maybe you've got the F/R leads switched around....
