My Homebuilt RC Micro Paper Se5a

Didn't see this until late tonight. My brother advocates something along these lines, but in my experience the centripetal force on the string makes it difficult to analyze what's really going on. Force on the string can be large and their is no real analog to this vector in free flight. It...

First flight test of the rebuild today. Decided the weather was too good not to try taking the model up. :mrgreen:Barely perceptible winds, gusting to maybe 1-2 mph. I taped down the hood for the first flight and charged the battery. Did a quick check, put the plane in a box and drove off to...

My Homebuilt RC Micro Paper Se5a

Looks like today may be the first outdoor flight. High front, clear skies and very little wind. I'll wait until evening to get the lowest possible breeze. I've had an inspiration about relocating the servos to increase push rod efficiency, so I won't be horribly upset if this results in a...

What sort of mount do you have in mind? Last minute suggestions are welcome! I'd like to make a wind tunnel with a stress gauge calibrated sting for models of up to 2 foot span. That would really take a lot of worry out of first flight, but it's a major project in its own right. A big...

:-P OK, this is kind of embarrassing. When you program the ESC by means of the transmitter (which is what we cheap newbies do-we don't need no stinkin' card) you need to look at the data flimsy sheet very carefully. The process involves a lot of beeping from the ESC, which you must count...

start up stutter- Weather clearing, ground drying. Some tweaking and general prep for first hand launch evening. Better battery hatch. Batteries charged and on standby. I just remembered to reprogram my .7 g Hobbyking ESC to High timing setting. This gives roughly 25% more power, but the...

My Homebuilt RC Micro Paper Se5a

I have a couple of candidate launch sites. One is a 20 foot plus hill surrounded by many acres of flat, mowed grass. The hill gives me a launch comfort factor, and the site will work over a wide range of wind headings. This is a standard test spot for my gliders. The main problem is that...

Scratch built paper Se5a RC prototype

Somewhat along of what Alaimo has been trying with his card DR1, I have been prototyping a paper radio control Se5a in 1:24 scale. Using 75 g/^2 printer paper. This is not a fine scale model like the ones seen in this section, it's intended to be an inexpensive, quick build that looks rather...

Still raining here :-( and windy too. Next week's forecast is looking much better. Until then, I'm figuring out where to put that 3ed servo for the ailerons. Just enough room over the lower wing (CG neutral weight), but I'll have to move some wires. If the plane can land safely on the...

My trike weighs in at around 30 lbs, a little less. It is a lot, but not that bad for a recumbent trike. Not bad at all! Plus, with a trike you always have a spare wheel handy!

I feel like I am really ruining your thread If it gets too messy I'll start another. I have a life outside of paper RC , always interested what else fellow hobbyists do. Every one of those bikes is worth more than my car! I was always the only guy in the triath without an aero wheel...

Yep, old school machinist! Beautiful piece of engineering & craftsmanship. Weighs in at? 20 mph is pretty impressive, wonder what you could do with a fairing? I'm a bit of cyclist myself, used to triathlon (sprints mostly), I usually just run these days in large part because I need to...

Seems like you are one of those old school machinists, hopefully not displaced. I too have had a multidisciplinary career, but can't say I've ever built my own exhaust!

Very fine! We get to the same pattern place (yours look very familiar) but by very different software means. Go here: http://www.zealot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=169146&page=3 Traditional card modeingl approaches don't work well for me. I tried to fly commercial card stock kits as a kid...

Beautiful - what CAD are you using? How do you flatten your 3D forms to patterns? I still haven't found an inexpensive CAD that really helps me much. So, I still design by successive cross sections which I connect with linear shot lines which I split into facets which I reconnect on a 2-D...

I haven't added the additional aileron servo yet, and small changes I made to the latest version haven't changed weight measurably - still 42.5 g. Still too hot to taxi test in the hall! Accelerates very quickly once you goose the throttle past idle. Rained most of the day yesterday, it's...

My Homebuilt RC Micro Paper Se5a

No magic bullets eh? Yet anyway - the technology is evolving pretty fast. I can lose 3 g by just removing the case, that should compensate for one more servo and some push rod. I'm putting in an order for batteries, more FLySky receivers and a Z bend tool.

This little 4channel receiver at <3g looks intriguing. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11972 Anybody know of an affordable TX that's compatible? What is DMS2 exactly anyway. I'm assuming my FLYSKY is not.

It's a lot easier to make things look photogenic the 2nd time around. I still need to enlarge the rudder to achieve both greater realism and rudder authority. The prop wash is simply incredible with these high rpm motors - I need full rudder to counteract it at roll off. Hand launch is a...
