    Your Weekly Comic 1-8-06/1-14-06

I think it is priceless. The sad thing is that I had to explain the humor to my wife. She is obviously not a railfan nor modeler. JD

    Motorcar Operators West May 12th-14th

Not sure what forum to post this on, but heck this should work. I got this from a guy in my model railroad club that is also an avid motorcar owner and WP historian. For those that are not familiar with the area in question, Ione is in the central California foothills about an hour south of...

    Revitalizing Model Train Shows

Russ brings up a good point and makes me want to finish my modules. While I operate at the Sacramento Modular Railroaders on a montly basis, the hobby itself is about perpetuation and if it is stagnant...Well, we all know the rest of the story. JD

    jon-monon retires

There is only one person on this entire forum and uses multiple screen names just to mess with our minds. The rest of us just think there are hundreds of members. JD

    Guess were these engines are.

It is actually the Pacific Locomotive Association/Niles Canyon Railroad. SP5623 is (last I heard) still owned by Howard Wise and Errol Erman but given a home with the PLA. This is also a historical portion of the continuation the the Central Pacific on its eastward expansion and both SP and...

    CFNR/Yolo/STE/CCT

Bill, I will keep this thread bookmarked and sometime this spring you and I and anyone else who may be interested can hook up for a day and follow the CFNR and maybe even the CCT should time permit. JD

    CFNR/Yolo/STE/CCT

As far as history on the CCT goes, there is an excellent new book out by Dave Stanley that deals with all the history of the CCT. CFNR has no historical publications that I know of, but to learn of how SP/NWP were the predecesors to the CFNR you can read the Southern Pacific Western Division by...

    CFNR/Yolo/STE/CCT

Geesh, I had forgotten about even starting this one. The reason I posed the question in the first place was to meet fans in this region and learn more about the stuff in my own backyard. The four shortlines mentioned are all within a few hours drive of one another, but realistically not all...

    An Arizona Christmas

Because you mentioned, Prescott makes you the man of the hour in my book. My grandmother lived there for years and I remember the vacations all to well - both summer and winter (with all the snow). JD

    Realistic local yard operations

Basically I am literally stuck with 16 feet by 2 feet in HO scale. Thanks for the intel and I will do some reviewing. JD

    Realistic local yard operations

I am still trying to design a local switching yard that will service six modern era industries that will need to handle roughly 30-35 cars and need a yard that would replicate what either currently exists or one that the railroads would really build. What I am envisioning is building a yard...

    my new track plan

I agree that putting the industrial trackage in front of the main makes sense, but still in this plan there seems to be an awful lot of yard switching and track for a very limited amount of industry. JD

    my new track plan

I like the overall idea, but where are the industries that all this yard trackage is going to serve? JD

    HO Edmund Fitzgerald Kit

Try going to the Walthers website and using their product locator resource. It is kind of a pain but worth the effort if you find what you looking for. I found a lone Rivarossi Alaska Railroad set after spending countless hours of sending e-mails and calling various hobby shops. Of course, I...

    Spotted Today

There is/was a Rock Island boxcar along with a couple of WP covered hoppers on the Tracy/Mococo sub near, Byron California many months ago. Not sure if they are still there or not. That line is used mainly for long term storage. JD

    Strike it Rich!!!

I have a photo of a converted tank car that is used for scrap metal, but not worthy of anything other than an odd-looking "thing". I did not know there was an official website, but could very well be. Best thing is to railfan in person and if you are up to it someday this spring or summer...
