    1:144 Scale DC-3

I have started attempting to work on an 1:144 scale DC-3. I'm using the Fiddler Green kit scaled down 42%. Last night I attempted a test build and it was a disaster. The pieces are so small (especially the nose section) and I hard time folding and gluing them together, even with super glue...

    Jedi ETA-2 by Paper-Replika

I'd be interested to hear how you will make the model sturdy enough for young hands.

    Silver Paper and Colored "Decals"

So what are people using to print onto silver paper? My understanding is that ink jets smear.

    Silver Paper and Colored "Decals"

I've been pondering about using silver paper. I have access to a black and white laser and was wondering whether the following process might work -- Print the model with a black and white laser onto silver paper For the color sections, print them onto regular paper with a color printer Using...

Oustanding Lublin R-XVIb and P-51 Old Crow planes

That Lublin R-XVIb is awesome. I really love that boxy Ford Trimotor / Junker 52 prop look. Thanks for posting!

1st Build -- The Krak Des Chevaliers

Less that $10. The old Dover "cut & assemble" models were rather cheap and marketed towards kids (However, I think it's not the easiest kit in the world -- instructions are vague and there are some fold & glues I found challenging). Dover published a whole series of these models (Caernarvon...

1st Build -- The Krak Des Chevaliers

Progress has been slow, but it's coming along. I spent part of today recovering from Holy Week by finishing up a segment of wall that I had been working on and off on for the past couple of weeks -- Wall "F" with Tower 7. I am no longer using white glue, but switched to using Turbo Tacky Glue...

    Gaswagen (Gas Van)

I spent part of my childhood in Berlin. I rowed crew in high school and used to row at a club not far from the villa at 56–58 Am Großen Wannsee where the Wansee conference happened. While I'm not a military modeler, I've sometimes pondered about where the line was for those WWII era modelers...

    Paper DC-3?

So I went ahead and purchased the Fiddler's Green DC-3. This may be the next project once I get my current build done. Does anybody know what scale the Fiddler's Green model is?

    Paper DC-3?

At some point, I'd like to build some 1/144 scale models of classic propliners. Is there a free DC-3 available? I've been only able to find the commercial Alan Rose "half model" and the Fiddler's Green C-47. I'm not sure about the ethics of repainting and resizing a commercial model.

1st Build -- The Krak Des Chevaliers

I found myself up at 2 in the morning working on this model last night, So it's not just the baby that's depriving my sleep; it's also a paper castle.

1st Build -- The Krak Des Chevaliers

Greetings, A couple of update photos -- Progress going a bit slower than anticipated, but I have a good excuse since my wife and I welcomed baby daughter #2 on March 2nd. The build consists of an outer wall and an inner citadel. The outer wall consists of a series of boxes that make...

    Experience with Print/Copy Shops

Has anyone ever experienced any kind of problems taking their downloaded models to a copy shop for printing? In particular, I'm wondering whether their might be questions from the shop about copyright violations, even though the model being printed is a free model. I've heard horror stories...

1st Build -- The Krak Des Chevaliers

I've started to slowly put together the different walls and towers of the outside wall. Couple of questions -- To make the walls, you fold and glue the flat drawing into these boxes. I'm having trouble keeping them completely square when gluing together. They are small and fiddly. Any tips...

1st Build -- The Krak Des Chevaliers

So I went ahead and started putting together the first couple of walls. I think I'm making all the newbie mistakes. But as my wife says, it takes time to develop the "eye" and skills to do something new. So onward! It's just card and glue.

Here's a contemporary picture of the fortress wall. Those "things" jut out of the wall significantly.

1st Build -- The Krak Des Chevaliers

Today my first build came in the mail, the classic Dover model of the Krak des Chevaliers in Syria. I was really excited until I opened the book and (gulp) that's a lot of cutting to do (but I wanted a challenge, so suck it up :)) Glancing at the model, it appears that some of the wall detail...
