Now I'm Gettin' Too Big For My Britches

Woodland Scenics 4% foam risers take 4 feet to go up 2 inches, 3% risers take a little under 6 foot (at 3% the six foot risers go to 2.25 inches at 6 foot), in RTS, disconnect the track that is going to be on the riser and then select that track and go to the special pull-down menu and select...

Now I'm Gettin' Too Big For My Britches

Sounds like fun. I'm having a hard time working on my layout, spend too much time just watching the train go around. :-) Plus I drew the templatefor my flat area, but I need to get it cut out and made so that I can finish. Your plan looks nice,I just made mine a weird shape because I didn't want...

    New Desktop Layout

Thanks guys! I did actually only ballast a little into the tunnels, I just wish I could get a little farther in as some of the empty track shows. Our camera broke on our recent trip so I am taking these with a webcam, so sorry about the quality. Well, I got some scenery done today. Thanks...

    New Desktop Layout

I finished the ballast! It wasn't too bad, I would hate to have to do a larger layout, but eventually I will. Learned a valuable lesson, ballast tunnels before you build them! Now onto weeds, shrubs and trees! I am hoping to take this to work soon maybe in a week or so. My desk looks so...

Jeffrey Wimberly - Nice scene Tom (Spankybird) - Great Pictures:thumb:, love seeing people enjoying trains. That girl with arms folded in the last picture has the look of, "I'm too cool to be here." Reminds me of my oldest daughter. Jim - Nice Scheme, always like orange on an engine. chessie4155...

    Fred & Red's Cafe

That building turned out very nice and made for a great scene on your layout! I really like working with laser cut kits. They seem to very often turn out really well. Where did you get a the nice N scale cars?

Brand New Plan (Thanks To Jesso)

Well, as long as this is a stepping stone, you are right. And maybe someday, make it into a coffee table. :-) My inglenook has become a coffee-table decoration, people come to visit, they see the layout, they watch me play it, then they want to play it. My suggestions where just for a possible...

Brand New Plan (Thanks To Jesso)

You won't have room for 3% on the figure 8 and if you will bear with me, I would go 4% on the outside as well to give you extra room and I will show you why. Squidbait is right, a roundy without any options will get boring, especially for trying to get a person involved in the hobby, eventually...

Brand New Plan (Thanks To Jesso)

On my figure eight tunnel, it is actually a bridge that I made to look like a mountain (I used the back of an atlas snap track package for the bridge. Both tunnels have 2 inches of clearance before cork and track and the tunnels are still tall enough for high cube double-stacks to make it...

Brand New Plan (Thanks To Jesso)

Yes, they are longer, but they are most likely truck-mounted couplers and that gives you more wiggle-room than body mounted, and they are connected to the tender, so that isn't very long either, so I don't see any issues with those.

Brand New Plan (Thanks To Jesso)

Not with short stuff like that, The main problem I have seen with S-curves is very long engines with body mounted couplers. On my HO layout (with 18" curves, yes you can laugh) I have an AC4400 followed by a 50' box car and the s-curve would lift the trucks on the box car, fixed it by putting...

Brand New Plan (Thanks To Jesso)

The main thing to remember about my layout is that there is no switching whatsoever, and it was purposely designed that way, so if you want train changes, they are pull off the track moves. Edit: Looking at yours, I noticed that you have a s-curve on it, you might want to change that so that...
