Hah, Feb already. How about your new paint job or road?

Uh oh, my current task is painting over 3 CNW and 2 Up dash9's and decalling them for SP in the Black Widow scheme to match my 2 Tower55 units. It will give me a fleet of 14 SP dash9's when I'm finished. Actually more than I have in my NS fleet:thumb:

I imagine thats what brought 98% of the membership here. Many come here as guests "lurkers" and become members after reading through the topics and liking the family oriented attitudes here:thumb:

    It's called "Google", people!

You know the funniest part about this thread is: When using Google to search for relative terms to your query about model railroading, there will always be a link to the Gauge there:thumb: So that means that at one time or another, the topic in which you were searching for has been discussed...

Hah, Feb already. How about your new paint job or road?

Heres an SD24 and a SD50 I had redone a few months ago. The SD24 was originally an UP, now its an Central of GA. The SD50 was an CSX, but lightly sanded the paint, color matched, and with a couple of decals, restored to its old glorious Seaboard.:thumb:

    DCC'ing old Athearn units appreciated

Heres an old bmp I had uploaded here. Although you can change the lighting to using the original lamp if you shorten the copper coming from the backside of it and solder the white wire to it and not use the blue wire.

    EMD SD40's

Chris, the one you have pictured is a tunnel motor, an SD40T-2. The CN SD40's listed in the bottom picture has a larger porch than a standard SD40. They have the "Ears" behind the cabs, for snow reasons, if I'm correct.

    IHC Mountain Repair

I dont know with IHC if it would be cheaper to just buy another loco from them, or scout on Ebay for 1 for parts. IHC's locos arent that expensive, thats the good thing about them, and you could keep the crashed one for parts. Just a suggestion.:thumb: I've got 3 IHC locos, a NKP and a B&O GW...

    Just got a Proto2000 SAL E7

I've got 2 of their E6's, and IC and ACL, and love the look of them. But I did make 1 change, and that was to remove the front coupler and change the pilot to the enclosed one, didn't like the open look of it.:thumb:

    road bed

I'm using 2 @ 3/4" pink foam covered with cork for extra quietness. I think its easier to use cork for the roadbed to raise it above the surrounding "ground".:thumb:

Question from a new train enthusist

Welcome aboard sir! It wont hurt one bit to add as many engines as youd like (as long as your power supply can handle it), or If your like some of us who have more engines than stock, its not a problem.:thumb:

new to the hobby and gauge

Wow!! Extremely impressed and envious!!!! Great use of the area available!!! But, 1 question: Is the Blue 60' Thrall all door car, the longest car you have? As in the last pics you have posted, the parallel tracks emerging from the tunnel, That particular car seems to overhang thru the "danger...

    How to solder?

I'd solder the joiner at the 45 angles on the ends and let it flow into the joint.:thumb:

    How to solder?

I've always put the sliding rail on the inside of the loop and trimmed the excess. After trimming, I'd file the rail heads and all burrs off for a clean fit. Its either like that or trim the static rail to match the sliding rail to fit the radii of the curve.:thumb:

    ho track plan for 96" x 112"

The curves are not representative of any radius. This plan is not set in concrete. and as for a helix, the entire track plan is a helix. the double deck is for up and down long run, and is nothing more than an expanded helix.:thumb:

MRC Prodigy Express for a dummy

Are you using a Prodigy system? If your decoder is still set at factory, just go to "program main", type in factory set address (normally 0003) and hit enter, it will flash address again, and this time put in the address you want it to have. The prodigy system takes care of the cv's for you.:thumb:

MRC Prodigy Express for a dummy

With the prodigy system, just changing the address to what you want, the system will silently access the correct cv's and set them for you. Unlike Digitrax, theres no hex conversion to do.:thumb:

MRC Prodigy Express for a dummy

I do believe that you are trying to change the address when it first prompts address, instead leave it at 0003, hit enter, then it will prompt you for address again, this is where you put in the new address. The system has to connect with the decoder at the factory assigned address first, then...
