    Pick your brain

hilltop I would have to vote against the church, or anything that would be disrupted by the constant clattering of trains. I go completely with Train 1, a picnic/scenic/railfan type of park. Lynn

    Love those photos

Yeah Hey Viperman. You said something about constructive criticism so you're the one that popped the lid on this bucket of worms. I'll make a deal with you; I'll deal with ALL the criticism, and you do my construction. I think that is a pretty good deal..........................for me. If I...

    Photos of Progress

research Gary, I have never researched areas for scenery. I find it more satisfying to just think of things I have seen in real life, and go for it. Example: on the top layer of foam on my layout, there is a 3-4 inch hole that got punched in it somehow. With all the sinkholes you hear about, I...

    Symphony 77

Mrc 7000 I've had an MRC 7000 for some years and I'm very happy with it. I have DC only, but have one loco w/ sound. That is great, but the MRC has diesel and steam, throttle, sound volume, and speed rate. The sound quality will depend some on your speakers. Lynn

welcome Hi Ray. Like your avatar. Sorry to hear about youre having heart surgery, but happy you came thru it OK. Been there, done that, and it was no fun. I have also traveled that rough road. This is a good hobby to relax with. Just don't get upset if things don't go right. These guys here...

    2 questions

power poles Everone is right, it is a PAIN in capital letters. I had a small layout long ago that had power to the bldgs thru tiny wires stung up. It was absolutely fantastic. The biggest problem was the wire used was so tiny it was almost impossible to solder or connect. That's 1 1/2 cents...

    HO Layout Ideas Please.....

layout Seems to me that it would be advantageous to have a crossing in the middle, like a bent figure 8. On the ourside rail there on the left, gradually curve to the window side, then turn right and back to a crossing before coming back up the left. That takes away the sharp curves necessary...

Are there other RTV molding rubbers ?

molds I'm not sure what RTV stuff is, but if you, say, have a tunnel portal, and you want more of them, I used stuff from Hobby Lobby. Half a dozen or so coats and Voila! I think I got a half pint jar and have made several mold. Still have some left (if it hasn't dried up on me) Lynn

    ho rear truck

My idea is that the truck isn't sitting level, lifting the rear wheels just enough to derail. Also, if the front wheels do not roll extremely smooth, it could bind enough to give a bit of resistance and lift the rear wheels, or take weight off them enough to easily derail. Lynn

Model Power HO Flextrack and trains

track I have both Atlas and Model Power flextrack on my layout, and where which one is, I couldn't tell you. They are the same to me. I can't tell any difference. All I have is code 100. Lynn

Are we running faster and better?

speed My remarks go in the same line as Waynes. I'm on cable, so it should be fast, but it seems considerably slower. No complaints, just an opinion. Lynn

How can you tell if you got the right plaster to water ratio?

Pop For me, it depends on where and how I want to use it. A thick mixture will set up pretty fast, whereas a wetter mixture takes longer. I use both kinds, pouring it tu run down sides of mountains, or applying with a putty knife. A very small amount of venegar will slow setting time...

    Whats in a Name

name Madhatter Jade, you'll get used to it. My first name is Marlyn. Everybody sees an i before the l and say Marilyn. I'm old and hit the doctors offices very frequently. When they call Marilyn and I stand up, it is hilarious the look on their faces. I hated my name when I was young. Now I...

    A real challenge to me.

wheels My question to begin with, are all wheels metal? Or some plastic? I have found that Wahls Oil does NOT help if there are any plastic wheels. That said, try cleaning so many cars at a time and run them only, until you get more done. That would be the many ounces of prevention to a ton of...

    Playing with expanding foam insulation.

foam I used some of that expanding foam quite a few years ago and it worked good. Some of it varies, and the top gets smooth. I carved a little bit off and the foamy holes looked like pitted rocks. Some looked like rounded rocks on the side of a hill and only needed a little strata carved in to...
