reducing value of original model train engine

I've got to agree with Jon on the subject. I've got some pretty valuable (read expensive) toys including trains but I bought them at a right price but I "play" with them and don't really give a hoot about their value ever going up. But on the other hand a truly collectible piece can at times...

    a few questions about homabed

Homabed is roadbed cut from Homasote which is a paper product. Its made from ground up newspapers and lottery tickets:D Most any white glue or carpenter's glue will glue it down just fine, even to styrofoam. Be sure to put some weight on it while it drys to ensure a good bond.

    PayPal usage!

Paypal works good for me too since eBay took it over. The only thing that I disliked was having to give out my bank account # to do electronic transfers from PayPal....So what I did was set up a seperate checking account for PayPal only. Its one of those "el cheapo" accounts that the bank...

    eBay Model Railroad Theme Page

I noticed this afternoon that eBay doesn't list the theme pages on their opening page anymore. Here's the address of the model railroad theme page. Once there just choose the link/subject you want. You can then sub search on any given page(s). http://pages.ebay.com/theme/modeltrains.html

reducing value of original model train engine

Hello Al and welcome aboard. I'm just wondering what is it that you are contemplating a resotoration or repair on? It can make a lot of difference depending on what the item is. Somethings you want to restore and others are best left alone as far a value is concerned.

Speaking of antiques - from junk to gem - ebay

Agreed! But is it any different today? No, just look at the "Robbers" that take away American jobs and then outsource them for pennies on the dollar offshore. What's the motive?...why profit of course and what's the result?...financial and physical hardship:( :( :( ...I don't see the price of...

Speaking of antiques - from junk to gem - ebay

I suspect that there may be more to this than we know....and we probably never will. It would be interesting to know if the seller actually gets payment for the boat. Ethical values in "horse trading" walk a very thin line...sometimes it falls one way and sometimes it falls the other....some...

Food For Thought on Advanced Layouts

John, Using the old tried and true L Girder benchwork you can make the layout any shape you want to. The secret is in the length of the joists. By varying the length with the joists on 16" or less centers you can make that outside edge curved and it will still fully support whatever is on top of it.

    Tires

Good idea Jon, Since all my roads are dirt:eek: I prefer the sunken in look but for paved roads a bluge would be just the thing.

Hi Rob, Welcome to The Gauge. Could you be a little more specific....electronics is a broad term when it comes to model railroads. Please elaborate on what you want to do and we'll be glad to help.

Food For Thought on Advanced Layouts

Dat Brakie Sure Am Smart !!! Great thoughts Larry:thumb: One other thing that comes to mind when I think of advanced planning is that model railroads don't have to be square, or run exactly around the walls of a room or be a square table sitting in the middle or corner of a room. The use of...

    Tires

Also on the subject of tires.....ever notice how you vehicle's just don't seem to sit on the road realistically???? I got this tip from a master of military models......file a flat spot on the bottom of each tire where it will touch your road....it makes the plastic tire look like it has the...

    Illusion

    Dremel

Dremel makes a full closure chuck....just like a 3 jaw Jacobs chuck that will fit right in the tool with no modifications. It will handle 60-80 size drills. A light dimmer makes a good speed control for light use. If you want some thing with a bit more capacity use a speed control for a...
