    Decaling Question

Any MRR decal is best applied to a semi gloss or gloss finish. However this does not hide the decal shine. It allows the decal to adhere more tightly to the surface and helps eliminate air bubbles and "frosting" of the decal carrier (the clear part of the decal). The liberal use of decal...

    model railroads and fire codes

Belonged to a MRR club once that had a duck under right across the front door to the building. We held an open house once a year and would have 400-500 people show up. It was no problem with the fire inspector as it could be lifted up with one hand or in an emergency it would simply break away...

    Radio Interference from motor sparking

Sorry Errol, I won't tell. Leave the :curse: thing where it is. 50,000 years from now visitors from another galaxy will dig it up and say " Ah Ha!...This is technology that they destroyed their civilization with". :D :D

    Radio Interference from motor sparking

Don't 'fergit Fred, You got to add labor for soldering it on :D :D :D I tried everything I knew with that :curse: lamp!!! Even ferrite beads on the cord. I tried to swap it to Saadam for some oil futures  by telling him it was a WMD but he went with gas instead  :D :D

    Radio Interference from motor sparking

It is assumed that you as a good model railroader keep the latest issues of all of the model railroad magazines in your "library" so that time spent there will not be "wasted" :D :D :D :D :D

    Radio Interference from motor sparking

Hi Errol, In the USA the rules are not as stringent with respect to generated RF noise from small electrical appliances or household devices. So I guess the mfgs. save 10 cents per loco!! My microwave will knock out the TV. Sometimes not having the train power pack on the same circuit as...

    Warped Roof Questions!

One Way To Snag The Sag Steve,From looking at your pics it appears that your roofs lack a ridge pole that would support the center of the roof. For modeling purposes a ridge pole can simply be a square stick of the apporiate size rotated to match the angle of the slope of the roof as indicated...

    BNSF sighting in Ga.???

Its cheaper for railroads to hand off an entire train and just change crews than it is to change locos each time the train interchanges with another railroad. This is especially true with a single destination train like a coal train. Most likely, the train you saw was headed for one of Georgia...

    Narrow Gauge?

The D&RGW narrow gauge was orginally built with the vision of someday being converted to standard gauage. Somethings (such as bridges) were actually built to standard guage practice in anticipation of this. But the main overall reason a railroad was built in narrow gauge was cost. It simply...

    Z-Scale

Hey Tyson, Usually, the older we get the larger our trains become :D :D :D Once read an article in MR about a guy who wrote some software for a virtual railroad. He said that he wanted trains and a computer but his wife said he could only have one or the other. He chose the computer...BAD...

    Floquil Vs. Poly-S Paints...?

Here's a tip for using Polly Scale paint to keep it from congealing in the bottle......Never shake Polly Scale paint to mix it up. This introduces air into the paint and will cause it to congeal. It must be stirred. Even the people that make it caution against shaking in the their instructional...

To clip or not to clip.......Coupler pins

Yep You're 100% right Fred. I'm thinking that they could be drilled in at an angle so that the glad hands would touch for photo purposes.

To clip or not to clip.......Coupler pins

Val,Detail Associates and Details West both have scale HO air hoses. Also there are several mfgs. that have scale dummy couplers. But nothing beats good old Kadee's for operation. :) OH...BTW...Just a little trick....Try using Kadee HON3 couplers on HO cars. They are 3/4ths the size of say...

I go with what Dash said about the alcohol. Get you a thin blade putty knife to slide under the ties to break loose the ones that still stick.

    Floquil Vs. Poly-S Paints...?

The Polly S line of paints are latex based. They are ok for kiddies but not worth "a flip" for model railroad use. The Polly Scale paints are great. They adhere well and can be brushed with little or no brush marks showing up. They also airbrush well.

Is anyone familiar with these power saws?

Over the years I've bought tons of stuff from Harbor Freight. Its mostly "made in China" and various other imports but overall I have been satisfied with what I got for the price. Just don't expect it to be the quality of the "big gun" name brand tools (which they sell too). Just a little...
