    P2K Canadian National Fa1,2 questions

Here's a link to one I found on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=19135&item=5945536384&rd=1 It appears the fan is non-functional, but it has see-through radiator screens, rear diaphragms and opening rear doors as on the FA-2.

    Resistor calculation for 1.5V LEDs

A white LED is generally rated for 3.3 to 3.6 volts @ 20mA for maximum brightness and longevity, but they will start to light up with about 2.2 volts applied to them. The 3 volt output will give a nice bright light, and long life to boot. Pete

    Changing to LED's in Locomotives?

I've had good luck painting the LED's using clear orange. Below is a comparison of the light output of a painted and non-painted 3mm white LED.

    Turnouts & LEDs

Hi Woodie Here's a couple of ideas...mebbe. Rather than using the PL-13, you could wire in an inexpensive (if there is such a thing) latching DPDT relay with the coils on the switch motor, and it would switch power to the LED's. The latching types will stay in one position until a shot of...

    Track soldering

Hi Woodie I usually butt them up snug. Solder won't easily fill gaps in the rails, as it tends to 'run downhill' while in liquid form. Work quickly - it shouldn't take you more than 3 seconds for each joint. Track joint, that is.

    Atheren SD75i

I recently acquired an undecorated SD70I Canadian cab from eBay (should be pretty much the same) for $42 US - couldn't pass that up! I haven't compared it as far as accuracy goes, but the detailing is fine and crisp, and it has a lot of add-ons to be applied - fans, grabs, wipers, sanding...

best brands of N scale locomotives

MR did a roundup of N scale diesels in their June 2001 issue. It seems like the mid-80's was a turning point in quality - for the better. The only exceptions appear to by those made by Kato, Minitrix, and the odd Bachmann which have been decent all along. They also mentioned the list referred...

    Stanley's coming home...

Tough call here on who to root for; Calgary because they're based in Canada, and their farm team used to be located nerby (Saint John Flames); or, Tampa because they have (I think) three players from the Maritimes on their roster. Hmmm... GO FLAMES!!!

    original muscle cars

I'm currently working on an 89 Firebird Formula; taking a nearly stripped shell, and bringing it back to life. Converted it from the 'missing' Tuned Port Injection system to a carbureted 305 with a five-speed behind it. I see Russ posts on TGO, but it never clicked until reading this thread...
