Converting EMD GP7 to EMD NF210

Here's few answers: 1) They are narrow gauge, 42" to be more precise. 2) They were built for many of the same reasons as the rest of the narrow gauge lines - rough terrain meant steep grades and tighter turns than standard gauge would allow. 3) See #2 ;) 4) They were built by GMD (Canada's...

help me I am eager to finish....

Hi Ben You'll need more than just resistors to make the lights work directionally; the diodes in the circuit shown in the link above act as one-way 'valves' to let the current flow in only one direction; resistors alone cannot do that. That circuit is the same one that Life-Like uses in many of...

New eBay scam to be wary of

The offer itself is against eBay's rules, but you could request that they put up the item(s) in auction format for you, just to cover both your butts. If the URL posted above is where the link actually took you to, it is safe as it's the eBay Germany site. You can always check by hovering your...

    coupler question..

No doubt some one will bring up Kadee for their variety of lengths and offsets, not to mention the strength of an all-metal coupler versus the plastic knock-offs. They have a comprehensive online conversion chart that can be found at http://kadee.com/conv/list.htm

Its Monday 8-22-05, Weekend modeling accomplishments!

It all began Friday, with a trip to a big flea market. Six acres of stuff to plod through, and all I came out with was a fistful of used N scale flextrack that I picked up for 10 bucks without even really looking at it. Turned out to contain 35 feet total, with 22 feet of Peco that was in fine...

    Which side the resistor?

You're halfway there ;) Both the color of the LED, and the supply voltage determine the resistor value needed. Red, orange, yellow, and amber generally require only 2.0 to 2.2 volts maximum; while white, blue, and green can handle up to 3.3 or 3.5 volts. Take your supply voltage (say 18v)...

    Which side the resistor?

Here's my 3¢ worth on the subject... :) The resistor can be placed on either lead of the LED. As Clark mentioned, DC is highly preferable, although the LED will still be plenty bright on AC. You won't notice it 'flashing' on and off on AC as the human eye/brain cannot manipulate images...

I use MS FrontPage Express to do most of the 'dirty work' then tweak the rest on my own. It was installed on my first computer, and somehow got transferred onto this one ;)

    Widecabs

I recall seeing a picture of a CN loco with a banner draped across the rear radiator grille area, touting it as the first locomotive with the new 'safety cab' design - I believe it was in MR along with the prototype drawings for the model. I can't recall offhand which one it was - I *think* it...
