    Stargate fans

Chris, I'd be really surprised if a search of the web doesn't turn up some line drawings and good pics of the Stargate, aka "chappa eye"

    Finding n scale vehicles

Another option is MBKlein, aka Modeltrainstuff.com. They have the Lineside resin vehicles going for 1.79 a car. I believe they're undecs, but there's a fairly good selection, and its more than just the 1940s, 50s, and early 60s.

    Layout #2 "It has begun"

With your lower level being 3' deep, I suggest that you consider at least 18" of separation. Also, either the lower or the upper level should be skinnied down some so that you have more "working room" for yourself, otherwise it will be even more difficult to deal with "issues" at the back of...

I have been hearing and reading a lot about foam

WhoDat, I ride a Honda ST1300, Triumph SprintRS, Santana Elan, Diamonback Apex, and Schwinn 503?? roadbike. The last three haven't gotten much use in the last few years. :( There is one good non-structural reason for going with a plywood underlay. It simplifies mounting switch...

    Need Sides On My Benchwork

Use pan head screws to attach the plexiglass. Doing so will spread the stress over a greater area, reducing the chance of cracks and such. Also, you can use 1" screws, possibly even 3/4" without any trouble.

    DCC Question?

The cheapest DCC system that can run 5 multi-loco consists would be the Digitrax Zephyr, IF you're dealing with N scale. Otherwise, you'll need to go with a system that has 5amp booster. Setting up the dual mainline is easy: hook power feeds up to each track from your booster. That's it.

    Modeling rocks of the Southwest

The ceiling tile looks very good, near prototypical, and as somebody who has spent almost his entire life surrounded by the bare geology of the desert Southwest, I have a certain eye for these things. Depending on the resources you have available, you may give either of these two a...

It's MONDAY 1-24-05, weekend modeling accomplishments!

Listed below are my targets for this past weekend, along with the results: Riding arooond and aboot on my motorcycle. Visit my NTrak module at the hobby shop where its set up, probably run my V&T passenger train on it a bit. Nope, didn't even get onto the motorcycle, didn't visit my module...

I have been hearing and reading a lot about foam

KIND: You want extruded polystyrene, not expanded polystyrene. The former was originally created under the brand Styrofoam by Dow Chemical, is blue, and is joined by the pink extruded foam from Owens-Corning. Expanded polystyrene is the same stuff as the beer cooler you took to the lake last...

It's FRIDAY 1-21-05, weekend modeling plans!

Riding arooond and aboot on my motorcycle. Visit my NTrak module at the hobby shop where its set up, probably run my V&T passenger train on it a bit. Redo one of my newfangled legs for my other NTrak modules (blanks at this stage), and attach the legs to one of the blanks to see how they...

    N Scale Question

Minimum radius is a tricky thing to talk about. There is minimum operational radius, the violation of which results in derailments and other unpleasantness. Then there is minimum AESTHETIC radius, i.e., "it looks funny". That's a more personal thing. In Will's example above, the 30" radius...

    dcc maniac ??

Sandro, Do you know if the K1b actually fits cleanly into the SD70MAC? The K1a fits muy bueno... (As I don't have any SD40/SD40-2 units to worry about...)

    N scale truck mounting

Generally, you can drill and tap for a #2-56 flathead or ovalhead screw. Using a flat or oval head screw will automatically center the truck. While you may use self-tapping screws, that presents potential for being off-center. Use a tiny dab of blue threadloc to keep the screw from loosening...

Atlas also makes a metal wheelset for MT trucks, its Part #22133 Feather River Trains - Atlas wheelsets In the meantime, you can either save the metal wheelsets you've already purchased for future Atlas cars, or send me a few as a thank you. :thumb: (How do I know about the Atlas...

How do start an operating night?

Probably the best way of doing it would be to find somebody else's operating session, get some familiarity with how its done, and if possible, involve whoever else you might want in your operating sessions in at least one that's done by somebody with experience. Being in the Pittsburgh area...

    early era

The Model Die Casting/Roundhouse cars (Overton) are the only one readily available in N Scale that harken back to the early era of American steam. There may be a better assortment available in European or Japanese steam, but you're unlikely to find those at a trainshow. Athearn, who recently...

    realistic "DEEP" Sea water

One point about using built up epoxy - the possibility of it yellowing over time is pretty high.

It's MONDAY 1-10-05, weekend modeling accomplishments!

Well, the weekend's not actually over yet, but I'm done workin' on the railroad for the weekend. ALL N Scale: I got the traction tire installed in one of my two Kato Mikados, it really was as easy as everybody says! (The other Mike, my first loco, is lurking somewhere in storage... :cry...

    Kato Streamline: UP or Zephyr....

Space is going to be your biggest challenge if you go with the California Zephyr. Its around 7' long, that's a wholelotta platform! The "granddaddy" of the Diesel streamliners is, I believe, the Pioneer Zephyr, which is only 3 cars. That will fit easy. I'm sure somebody here can...
