    The Alexander's Line in n-scale

here are some features on the layout that take away from the boaring oval designs. The plywood area is going to be a city in the bottom picture. I do need suggestions for one area. I want to hide the curve tracks some how. This section is below the level of the city and on the opposite...

    It's MONDAY, weekend modeling accomplishments!

This weekend I did not get any modeling done. I finished my first building on Thursday. I spent all day Sunday at the zoo with the wife and kids. I spent Saturday looking for supplies to use on the layout.

    Gauge Layout party No. 4

I just got finished putting together the first building for the city. I still have to weather it. It took 6 hours to build and paint. I found out the windows and door that I would have to get for scratch building cost more then the kits. TomPM I am 5 miles northeast of center city.

    Gauge Layout party No. 4

I do have the section ready to build a city on. I could try to build row homes with wood. I was going to put the streets and sidewalk in on my layout before I built the buildings. Anyone have any ideas how to put streets and sidewalk in cheap. The street has to be 1/4" thick to become level...

    Gauge Layout party No. 4

This sounds like a good idea but a little too late for me. I spent the last two months working on a mountain for my layout. Right now I am out of supplies and money for the winter. My sons and I usually do the RR model during the summer when he his off from school and I don't have tuition...

    Trains on TV

I saw the show also I always watch that series. They had two posibities for the engines leaving the ship. The first was they were pushed off to save the ship. The other was that the rocking of the ship dumped then into the ocean. I find it hard to believe that the engines were pushed off by...

    Scenery

There are several ways to make mountians it depends on what type of material you have handy or how much money you want to spend. I put up a drop ceiling in a bedroom and had a lot of scrap tiles. I put the tile over an edge and hit the tile to break it off into about 1 to 2 inch strips. The...

    N-Scale Layout

I was looking over the track plan. If the train enters the reverse loop in the middle there is no way back into it unless the train backs up. I would take out the reverse loop and have a double main line with sidings leading into the city for factories. That way two trains could run freight on...

    need help with city

I figured out an idea from Ralph's idea, put the wall along the part with the siding and make the city the same height of the track (2 1/2" to 1"). I would have to build stairs leading down to the track (1/2" to 1") so passengers can enter the station area. That is why there is three tracks...

    need help with city

The wall idea is good but might not fit in with the first loop design. How could I cover it and make it blend in with the other part. I might have to put the bench work in for the city before I can get an idea but it would be beter to have a plan first. The other option is to have the track...

    need help with city

I planned on putting in a city on my layout. Right now there is just a hole were the city will go. I have to frame out the area that the city will be in. My first plan was to have the city follow the slope of the tracks and put the tracks into the street. There is a problem with that idea the...

I have an other question about painting the mountain. What would be the best way to put trees on a mountain? I was thinking about putting them on after the mountain is painted so they don't get in the way. Then put on the ground cover which would be snow for my layout. I don't have trees...

I compare prices online and try to find the cheapest price. I don't drive and wal-mart is hard to get to and I don't know where there is a Michaels around here. I found that ordering the stuff is cheaper in the long run. The hobby shops charge almost double for engines and cars. The other...

    The Alexander's Line in n-scale

Here is the track design for my layout. I named it Alexander's line in rememberance of my son. The tracks run straighter then on the design. The layout is 12' x 11' with a double main line, 84 feet of track for each main line, the curves are 21" rad. and 19" rad. The plans only show the track...
