    Layout Design Considerations

Hi All: Tied in with the decision on "layout size" is the selection of scale in which to model. If you really want to model the entire route from Chicago to St. Louis with stops in Peoria & Springfield you're gonna need a 25'x 100' building in "O" or a 12' x 25' building in "N". Regards, Ted

    Car cards and waybills

Shamus: You state that setouts are placed at the rear of the consist and pickups come from the front. Is this a hard and fast rule for railway operations? Do you set up your blocks of cars in drop order starting always from the rear? Do the blocks also get set up with "first drop as last...

    tie color

Personnally i like silk ties best. Something in a dark blue with little C&IM logos all over it would be nice, not too wide, maybe 1 to 1 1/2-inches. Left hand knot, and NEVER, EVER, stick anything like a pin into a silk tie. Clasps or chains only. Hope that helps. Ted

    Train Simulator Software

Hi: Last post for the morning; have to go work on my train modules. Do any of you enjoy playing with train simulator software? I've got a copy of Railroad Tycoon II and enjoy it a lot. Gives me a chance to play with whole continents of trains instead of just a 24 x 48 module...

    Yes, its open

Thanks "The-Guage" Shamus and Jon Just wanted to thank everyone for this catagory. As some of you regulars know, i run S-gauge Flyer stuff mostly. Even though i "just play with trains", this topic is where most of my interest lies. The modeling is satisfying, and i don't mind building...

    A question about CAD

Hi Don: I downloaded the 3rd planit demo this morning and i'll play with it some this week in the evenings when i get home. The pictures posed here and the info on the website makes me think it's a great bargain. I've used RTS and found it limited, though a good bargain at $0.00. As i said...

Discrimination at Superbowl, or Money Makes You Above The LAW?

Hi All: Well, have spent my lunch hour following this thread. At first i just wanted to see what hilarity would ensue on this board re: Janet & Justin. Then, i got concerned about the ugly generalizations and wanted to see how "the staff" handled it all. Then, had to read Mikey's statement...

    Aisle Width

Hi all: I fourth the 36-inch minimum. When planning restaurant seating or workstation operations we try and allow 18-inches for the person standing there looking at something and 24-inches for someone else to pass behind them. So 36-inches is a little closer than that but "y'all jus hav ta git...

    Automated layout..

Hi automats: Don't forget, you will also need the ability to stop a train at a turnout and have it wait for the other one to pass through as they will eventually, inevitably, end up at the same turnout at the same time. This kind of thing is easily done with O-gauge three rail track. It's a...

    Layout Lighting Idea and Questions

Hi Hoss: Your original lighting diagram has the merit of being portable and does not alter the room in which it is located. It has a couple of weaknesses. One is that unless you place the light source above or in front of the front edge of the layout, everything on the layout between you and...
