    Mini-table saw

So Jon: When are you going to give us the "Consumer Reports" low down on the real performance of this little beauty? I mean, what's the use of our having you act as our guinea pig if you’re not gonna even try it out before WE buy it? So,..? How’s it working? Blow by blow descriptions...

Train Crew Question, Transition from yesterday to today

Hi all: Haven't been to the library on this one yet. Thought i'd start here and see if y'all can give me some direction. I understand that prior to doffing the use of cabeese, the conductor was in charge of the train, the engineer ran it Other "trainmen" performed duties as required...

    Switch Lists

Hi Greg: Just found this post, guess i missed it when it was originally posted. Questions: Is the track list generated by the industry and given to you when you make the pickup? Do you modify the train consist list as you go through the run? Are the work orders generated by the...

    Do NOT block Ulster Ave.!

Hi Ralph: Great post. I haven't seen this mentioned in any of my readings on operations, although i'm just getting started. We experience this phenomenon a couple times a week in my neighborhood. We have a Honeywell plant nearby and an electric coal fired plant. Trains block two of the three...

" Vice? I have no vice!,

Jon: Nice vices. All five of 'em. What wattage soldering iron do you typically use? I have been thinking of making a resistance soldering iron because i just have a 25 watt pencil iron, that's fourty years old so it's probably only a ten watter by now, and i find it won't let me do much in...

    I'm excited!!!

Hi RC, Val, et.al.: Yeah, these are a little pricey for a sign, but they really are quite cool in action. If you haven't seen them try and make it to a show where they are on display. The sequencing action is great and they typically allow you to select several patterns or just a steady state...

Hi Gary: Found these the other night. My wife scanned them for me and i've set them up as jpg files. Don't know how they'll look but here goes. This first on shows the guy shoveling cinders. Looks like they have steel posts between the rails to keep them in gauge.

What Household Items Have You Swiped For Your Layout?

JR,...Will,.... I don't think we want to go there...... I must confess to using my wife's hot air embossing gun to dry newly purchased rolling stock after i clean it up for my use. Also, several years ago she bought a black and decker kit with drill, 'lectric screwdriver, flashlight, and...

    Some unusual Railroad Terms

Hello: Whilst up in the FROG last night listening to A Prairie Home Companion, they were in Spartanburg, SC last night so wanted to hear what they had to say about the south, i picked up a book i received from a neighbor as a birthday present back in '62. It's from the "American Heritage...

    data needed on hopper unloading

Gary: Look in Johnson's "Track planning for Realistic operation". I think it has some shots of low tech coal loading operations and also photos of ash pits, one i remember shows a guy with a shovel slinging ashes into a gondola. You might be able to tell how the pits were handled from those...

    data needed on hopper unloading

Gary: This may help some. It's not the type of unloading facility you have in mind, but it shows one way to anchor rails in concrete. Regards, Ted http://www.forecyte.com/cimbook/page-m26.htm

    Custom Storefront

Hi Spitfire: Great observation about how the kits may not actually fit into the time period you are modeling. It may help simplify your work if you remember that most of these "modernizations" of old buildings are applied directly over the original. So, some thin styrene textured and applied...
