    New Layout

It's nice to see the progress on your layout blue303. About the turnouts control panel, I remember seeing in the Kalmbach book " N scale model railroading getting started in the hobby" from Marty McGuirk that on his well known N scale layout Carolina Central he used an electrical box for the...

Roof material of 40' boxcars ?

Thanks Charlie, Squidbait and Wayne for taking some of your precious time to reply. Boxcars 101 is e very informative link. Linux

RonP, don't worry if your thread is moved to the Off Topic subforum. Now that we know that some The Gauge members are interested in Linux, we'll check the Off Topic subforum more often. And the Linux thread won't be forgotten ( Linuxly speaking, go to the /dev/null file ). I posted on the Off...

    model building help

When using a paint brush I frequently dip the brush in some clear water, it removes any dried paint from the paint brush. You should have told us that you have an airbrush. What brand of paint are you using ? If it is acrylic Polly Scale, don't forget to thin it before airbrush painting . 2...

I think about it now, but wouldn't it be better to move that thread to the off topic subforum. ? I'm not the thread starter, so it is just a suggestion here. Jacques

Of course there is some C, C++ compiler. I use it to program graphics with the SDL graphics library. Simple DirectMedia Layer CSXect, to install the C and C++ compilers, install the "build-essential" package. Jacques

Loren, I'm not sure but I checked the Synaptic packages manager, my plugin is listed as flashplugin-nonfree v9.0.124. Now I'm still using Ubuntu 7.10 ( I always wait a couple of months before upgrading because I don't feel like a Guinea pig ). Jacques

I'm not at that stage yet. I'll paint my N scale roads next week. Soma Kalmbach book suggests to use a French curve and a fine-point paint pen. Jacques

Any CN GP9 with a short high hood ?

Thanks to both of you Squidbait and Wayne for taking some of your precious time to reply. Interesting fact here, I was not aware that it wasn't until the GP20 came along in the '50s that locos were offered with a short hood and that GP9s get their nose chopped only in the eighties when they...
