    Great British Train Show 2004

Sleeper - Norwegian root sleip - a timber some info on my sleeper question From another list and more digging seems that the term 'sleeper' may have come from the Norwegian word 'sleip' for timber, as well as the horizontal position that resembles a sleeping person . Maybe long ago someone...

    Great British Train Show 2004

sleepers? This may be a good thread to ask a question that i've often wondered about. From where did the term 'sleepers' originate? I just learned what a 'platelayer' is; this begets the question. I believe 'sleeper' is a British term for what is called a 'tie' or 'crosstie' in other parts...

What Household Items Have You Swiped For Your Layout?

All of this goes to prove the resourcefullness (spelled wright?) of model railers. If a 'thing' has any possible re-use, it will be discovered - even if it has to reside in the junkbox for 20 years. Keep on scrounging - it works!

Ran me first train today!! Woohoo!

This is the best of both worlds. Even more fun on a small layout when a switching movement shares track with a mainline (a prototype no-no, but sometimes modellers are forced to compromise) and has to be completed before that express comes roaring by again.

    DCC Question?

Re: Don't expect any problems The strict rules by the FCC (USA), VDE (Germany/Europe), etc are intended to protect radio and TV (and police, fire, aircraft etc) communications from inadvertent interference due to radio emissions from digital electronic equipment, which includes computers and...

    The M.A.T. goes mushroom

I drove (well, Dad did) through Port Arthur and Fort William as a very young lad. Then i rode through Thunder Bay on a VIA train and saw it from the observation car. Drove through a few times myself too. But I still think of it as 'The LakeHead' where sea meets rail and much of Canada's...

    "My Beautiful Luncheonette"

This is great, Val! Didn't catch this earlier. Yet another DOTKWA model, looks like one could just walk in, sit down and order a hot dog and a coke. Didn't some of these old diners have a pinball machine or two in a corner for the younger crowd? (hint hint :D )

    DCC Question?

No, you are not out of line. This is another darn good question, and i will try to answer as best i can. Remember, i have not seen this problem either, but i don't run DCC or a ham radio station any more and am wondering if it actually could be a problem. Big differences today. Most TVs...
