    What do you prefer?

I prefer two mainlines, not necessarily 'double tracked'. I want them to be separate from each other but be near each other. Then include a way to crossover them making one large mainline. It's good for just letting trains runs in multiple configurations. I'm quite positive that I'll be in my...

    ugly table 4x8

It has become very popular. Search this site for extruded foam or insulfoam for more information on its uses in model railroading. Also, search Google for more information on the product itself. There are different styles for how to use it. Probably the most common is to just lay it on top of...

    Negative feedback for nothing

Preface: I'm a computer guy. It took me about six years to buy anything online, and I still haven't done any auctions. Recently I saw a "Buy It Now" for 15 of my favorite webcams at less than $15/piece after shipping. I paid over $120 for one of them just a few years ago. But I couldn't bring...

    Tie count

I'm in no way interested in hand laying track at this stage in my modeling, but I don't mind snapping out extra ties in flex track and manufactured turnouts. Would removing every-other tie render a more realistic look or is that a waste of time? Has anyone done this? What are your results? Got...

    Carolina Central Unitrack modification?

I would just remove three and replace them with sections of flex track. One piece of flex should be able to cut and fill the gaps left by removing the turnouts. That's not a bad layout design - I might use that for my nephew's setup.

    HO Track id

HA HA HA. Ok, I'm going to claim that I was referring to the left direction of the turnout. Yeah, that'll work ;)

    HO Track id

A is connected to the B going left, but not the B going down.

    HO Track id

Uh huh. Ok, by "point" and "y track" are you refering to a turnout?

    HO Track id

How is incorrect scale track better than correct scale track? OO is predominant in the UK, but runs on HO track. HO everything is predominant in the US, making buildings / people / trains / and TRACK the same scale.

    HO Track id

You have seen the light! I've been screaming this for YEARS about various modeling practices. This being one of the issues I have. I can understand they want it to be easily transitional, but honestly, they've done the exact opposite of "true to scale". The ties on smaller weight rail should...

    double crossover

Using XTrkCAD I made one with Atlas N scale. There isn't a 25 degree crossing, but the 20 degree works with #6 turnouts. Comes out to 2.25" centers and 17.15" long. Ah ha! While writing this I tried it with a 30 degree and #4 turnouts. Works! 1.9" centers and 12.3" long.

    double crossover

They end up being a bit larger, but you can assemble your own with a crossing and four turnouts. In HO scale using Atlas code 100 I used two #4 lefts and two #4 rights and a 25 degree crossing. It requires a couple short straight pieces for main line between the turnouts but places the two main...

    Crewless trains on KCS

How does the engineer accomplish the same thing by being IN the locomotive?

    Crewless trains on KCS

Not to belittle the engineers, but honestly their role could have been replaced many years ago. There is not much need for human operators on trains. Trains are simple - they are one dimensional and there is little external force that can change their path. To look at the extreme, the airforce...

    be careful!

My Xacto injury experiences are pretty limited. I think the best I've done with one of their blades is shave an inch long and paper thin slice of skin off the side of my left thumb while holding a straight edge to some foam-core that I was cutting up. It was so sharp and so fast that I didn't...
