    Arkansas Railroad Museum

A few weekends back my dad and nephew and I drove a couple hours to check out the Arkansas Railroad Museum. I thought maybe this group would be interested in a few of my pictures. http://picasaweb.google.com/psmyers/ArkansasRailroadMuseum It's in one of the old Cotton Belt yards. It's...

What is it about ten wheelers?

4-6-0 is just a really classic configuration. Though I think I prefer 2-6-0 myself. Either way, they're big enough to move some cargo but small enough to get through difficult locations. And generally they look good doing it ;)

    King Street Toronto ON

Have you been to the trolley museum in Pennsylvania? http://www.the-gauge.com/showpost.php?p=207094&postcount=12 It was pretty cool.

    XtrkCad question

I'm not entirely sure what you're looking for here ... You can select unit type in the Options > Preferences menu. Either English or Metric. If you are wanting to change inches into feet there are 12 inches in 1 foot. The program takes dimensions in inches or centimeters (depending on...

They're all powered? Even the six dummies? ;)

    How Many Locos?

I think this kind of poll could use quite a few more options in the lower numbers. Like ... 1 2-5 6-10 11-20 21-30 Just a thought ;)

    Tie count

I think replacing the ties is more than I'm interested in at this time (: I'll just be removing as many unnecessary ties as I can.

    The "Y"

They're also avoided because they take quite a bit more effort to turn a train around than to simply use a reversion loop.

    It's been a while...

Reminds me of the brown boxcar discussion from several months ago ... ;)

    Tie count

Removing 1/2 (every other tie) of Atlas code 100 flex seems like the most cost / time / effort effective route. But I may look into some On30 before I spend hundreds of dollars on any track. Has anyone removed ties from turnouts? I'm quite sure it's more difficult, but surely it's possible and...

    I love this picture

I think that's multiple shots. You can see the light streaks from the buildings show a little bit of camera jitter, but the locomotive is sharp. He probably took the first one from the front of the loco with a long shutter time and a second one from the cab with a short shutter.

    Rare Consist of Power

I'll have to take your word for it that the last one is an A unit. But, yes, definitely obscure (:

Ebay why do they what they do?

It would be a very small market if ebay only dealt with 100% honest people ;)

    What do you prefer?

It also makes it easier to communicate with them while the trains are running.

    DCC blocks

Hey that's smart. I wonder if there is any benefit to doing this even without sound aided units. I guess it could help keep you from selecting the wrong loco, or if there's some random power surge it won't fry the locos in the shed. Also keeping the engines "off" might increase life span of the...

    My First Layout (R&R Rail)...

Wow! Somebody else using Sketchup for layout design - that's pretty cool (: You can see my work over here: http://www.the-gauge.com/showthread.php?t=22290 I would suggest using XTrkCAD for the track layout, though. It'll help you with things like gradients and radii. About your layout, I'd say...

    Kadee uncoupling magnets

I was under the impression there was a button-activated under-the-roadbed uncoupler ... ? Maybe not from Kadee, but that someone was making an electromagnet uncoupler.
