Ok, after lots of consideration, just thought about it, I think I want to add one more turnout on my layout. I've already started ballasting but haven't gotten to the stretch in question yet. Here is the question though. Where I want to branch off it is going to take a curved switch. I found a...

    first layout

re I'm working in my first layout still, had some down time but that's a long story. Here's what I did in my search. First is scale. HO or N is gonna be what you want on a 4x8. I started HO and a 4x8 and it stretched to 4x10. N will get you a lot more but it is smaller. Then track design and...

    Track and siding question

re this is how my first one turned out. What I ended up doing was just lay the track and let it dictate the drop. Then I ballasted. I applied a couple layers and sort of pushed it in from the sides to take out the slack and actually support the track.

I'm at the point of growing grass, trees and also ballasting. I've put down a coat of dirt (paint). Which would you guys do first, ballasting or grasses?

    Track

re Shamus, quick question. On the painting of the rail. how did you do that. I have no air brush so I would have to brush it on the side then wipe the top clean. Also, what type paint goes on atlas nickle oil or latex? Thanks

    Track and siding question

re Spitfire, I have been wondering the same thing. And Gary thank you so much. That makes great sense. I have a limited space for the incline from ground to roadbed height. But all I have to do is put a parallel line with the ties at the low end and use it to eye the spackle knife and rest the...

    Been A Long Time

That does sorta look like Martinsville. It's an idea, but not permanent. If I decide to keep it then I will cut out some of the blue so it sits a little lower. I figure somewhere I got to be able to find some sort of stands, or bleachers. Then I will wire it from underneath. My biggest problem...

last one for now These are bumpers I found today at my train shop. They are atlas code 83 but look better than those big guys specified for HO 100.

control board pic Control Board, needs painted. Consists of toggle switches and 1/4in screws with the wires attached underneath. Then I use a probe from a ohm meter to make the switch. (Shamus)

    Been A Long Time

another shot I'm not talented enough nor do I have the time, space and patience to attempt building this type stuff. *Lazy* I bought it off ebay. Along with the other model in the pics. Most likely I will buy the rest of the big, main models. I am planning on doing the more detail part myself.

    Been A Long Time

It's been about two years since I first got on this board and started asking questions about layouts and wiring. When the railroad ran out of funds, I was laid off from May 02 till April 03, I have still browsed this board just waiting to be able to get back to work. Since the funds have...

    Athearn Handrails

I have a couple of sd40-2's and I am going to start working on the details. When I first got them I went to use the plastic handrails and my fat fingers could not help but break them. So I just installed the metal handrails. My question is I am wanting to paint them now and how should I go about...
