Thanks Michael --- that is the ultimate compliment among this group!

    Modelling Mortar for Brick/Stone

Daniel: The first time I tried this (with the Kibri kit), I experimented with a couple of the pieces I didn't need so that I got the hang of it ahead of time (ie I played around with the consistency of the 'mortar', how to apply it, etc, etc). You could definitely do the same thing if you are...

    Modelling Mortar for Brick/Stone

Pat: In this particular case I just sprayed on red automotive primer. It doesn't look that great by itself, but adding the 'mortar' tones the colour down to give it more of a brick 'look'. It will look even better (touch wood) once I hand paint individual bricks a couple of different colours...

    Ignore My Earlier Posts

Found sites for both things I was looking for --- it was too early in the morning obviously

    Car Weight Standards

There is another thing I've missplaced --- the NMRA standards for rolling stock weight based on the length  I've looked on the NMRA web site but can't seem to find out. Once again, if anyone can guide me to this information it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Drill Bit Diameters?

I used to have a great reference sheet that came out of Model Railroader which had a variety of useful things like drill bit (#60-80) diameters, wire gauge diameters, etc. If someone has a copy they could scan for me, it would be greatly appreciated. Failing that, can anyone point me to an...

    Modelling Mortar for Brick/Stone

About a year ago, my wife and I tiled the backsplash in our kitchen --- little did I know that it would give me an idea for modelling brick or stone mortar quickly, easily and cheaply --- plus I think the end result looks quite good as well :D I've lost count of the number of methods for...

    Coffee Table Layout - Pics

Thanks for the kind comments --- this is the first time anyone other than my family has seen this work in progress and its nice to hear from fellow modellers that I'm on the right track. Ray --- good pick up! This is the East Broad Top from the 1970 ModelRailroader series of articles. One...

    Coffee Table Layout - Pics

A couple of weeks back someone suggested I post some pics of the coffee table layout I'm building. So, with much trepidation (first time  ), here's the first pic showing the control panel to give you a sense for the track plan --- And several more --- I clearly have No idea what I'm doing...

Control Panel - 'Quick Electrical Connectors'

One other thing --- how DO I post pics to the forum? I've never done it before.

Control Panel - 'Quick Electrical Connectors'

I'll post some pics next week --- I still have more structures to add and the scenery to do, but its coming along nicely. Just to make sure I'm understanding correctly what you're saying about wire --- I do have either 20 or 22 gauge running to the switch machines under the layout, but I can't...

    Plans for CN Bridges

Does anyone know if it is possible to get bridge plans/drawings from CN for one of their existing bridges in Oakville? I would like to scratchbuild the Oakville Sub bridge that goes over 16 Mile Creek (very close to the main GO station) which was built in the early (this is the only info I was...

Control Panel - 'Quick Electrical Connectors'

Thanks Mike (or do you prefer Mikey?): I would say 'semi-permanent' --- I want to have the ability to take it out for detailing, track maintenance, repairs, etc. You're certainly right about using connectors with enough pins --- that's why I suspect I'll end up with at least two major...

Control Panel - 'Quick Electrical Connectors'

OK guys, I really need some assistance on this one! I am building a 2' x 4' N scale coffee table layout and I've gotten to the point where I need to wire the small control panel to the layout. However, I want to be able to quickly disconnect the panel from the layout and store it...

    Handrail Spacing in HO?

Generally speaking, what scale distance should you leave between a handrail step and the side/top of whatever rolling stock or loco you are putting it on? It seems that something like 0.040" should do the trick (approx. 3.5 scale inches in HO), but I'm curious to find out what different people...
