    Kemtron USRA Mikado?

It's fine. I was afraid that my last post might not have displayed the proper tone...it was not intended to be argumentative. I've done a bit of research on production for scratch building, and it helps to understand how the companies work. Intriguingly, there is a Kemtron C-16 kit on ebay...

    Theme park trains

It's sort of listed on here...but I'll try to summarize the REAL Colorado ng equipment at Knotts. They have two C-19s...RGS 41 and D&RGW 340. They originally purchased a 2-8-2 as well...K-27 2-8-2 #464. The 464 was too big for their line, so they sold it and she now operates on the...

It reminds me of Baghdad receiving its first snow in 70 years...a year or two ago. Great pictures!

    Engine Terminal build

I like it that you are adding character. If any of the buildings really look out of place after it is completed (the water tower specifically), you can always move them to elsewhere on your layout. Your skills have progressed well in the past year. As for the turntable, it really isn't that...

n scale steam kitbashing - canadian locos

Basically, inside bearing lead trucks were pretty much the standard for a long, long time...and the USRA engines had them. USRA locomotives also had that type of trailing truck (I don't recall the name for it). Outside bearing lead trucks became common after 1930. It was a new design that...

n scale steam kitbashing - canadian locos

Welcome to our cubby hole of fun! Intercooler...perhaps the feed water heater??? The shielding on the front was commonly used to cover the air pumps (powering the brakes)...but that clearly isn't the case here because I can see the air pump on the side. I also suggest that you finish #1...

    Kemtron USRA Mikado?

Kemtron was a small producer...they did not have the equipment necessary to produce die cast locomotives. Also, the production run would have had to be substantial...for they would have needed to pay for all the tooling and the equipment. Further, Kemtron's quality standards are far higher...

    Kemtron USRA Mikado?

Arbour was taken over by Bowser and their product line has vanished. I think various people on here (probably not myself though) could identify it with a picture. Click on the "Go Advanced" button and I believe it is the paper clip. If the picture is too large too upload, right click on the...

tips for kit bashing some locos

By bar stock, I just simply mean round, square, and rectangular pieces of brass...basically the same as strip wood. In HO and On3, I've just brush painted them with floquil. I then like to stripe the tires which I do very carefully with a fine brush (don't know how easy that is in N scale). I...

    christmas plans foiled!

Make a test track! In the past, when I've wanted to test pulling power, I've set up a piece of lumber with track on it and elevated one end to test the performance on various grades. I wouldn't mind having a 2-6-6-2 whether it ran or not ;-)

tips for kit bashing some locos

You might be able to find some edged brass sides since it is N-scale. They probably wouldn't be as hard to make as you think. Scratch building is 90% intimidation and 10% effort. I'd make the CN cab with 5 parts...2 sides, 1 front (probably from the existing locomotive), 1 back, and 1 roof...

    Poll: Favorite Steam Manufacturer

Bachmann Spectrum...nothing else is close. I certainly love what BLI/PCM has done: C&O 2-10-4s, decent C-16s (the driver spacing is way off), and many beautiful prototypes, but they are not the value that Spectrum is. Bachmann Spectrum is my favorite because they give me a locomotive that...
