    Are you a model railroader?

Here, I have to honestly say that I'm in the armchair stage. I have some old equipment somewhere, but it has no collectible value I know of, and I'll probably never run it again.

    1928 German Steam Turbine Locomotive

When I saw the thread title, I assumed it would be a link to http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEUM/LOCOLOCO/germturb/germturb.htm with the same information.

    On Track, with Deano

Looks like a flashing beacon light on the cab - some roads, like BN, standardized on these. Spark arrestors like on CN switchers. Note that the number boards on the roof don't show the loco's number. These must be showing the train number, as SP and UP number boards did at one time.

need a small logging plan please

There's one dedicated layout planning site I know of (and am a member at), http://layoutparty.disisus.com/ It's currently down (again).

    Handlaying track with Herei-punktkontaktsystem

Looks like a labor-intensive procedure. I didn't know what the contact strip looked like.

    Athearn's ubiquitous Boat

    Wow. This one's unrecognizable.

    Sanding facilities

Exactly. Actually, even steam as comparatively small as Pacifics couldn't achieve full power from hand firing. Older, smaller steam often remained hand-fired to the end.

    G.E.C's layout pictures

Exactly. It's a myth that modern railroading requires larger curves. Passenger cars haven't got much longer. And many railroads had very large steam. The PRR wasn't known for it... except west of Crestline.

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

I didn't realize before just how undersized of a tender that is for a Pacific.

    A Brit checks in

Welcome aboard! Interesting to see someone modelling German and especially British railways in post-steam days. Don't see so many of the latter. And I'll certainly be interested in seeing your East German dual-gauge layout - I've toyed with the ideas of doing just that myself.

Photo Fun, for the 1st week of August...

That PNC engine... looks like an SD24... highnose, blanked dynamics... ex-SOU SD24, now deturboed to SD18M, later to go to CNW?

    Ohio Central System sold

Leaves them alone? They've got one of the most recognizable schemes around, and they apply it to all their roads. Obviously, there's a lot of power around in other schemes.

    Pics from Baltimore

Okay... C&O never had any. http://www.thedieselshop.us/FM_H1244.HTML From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FM_H-12-44 310-319 would've had roof overhang. There are still others it could've been.

What engine was used as the basis for that 0-6-0?

What railroad was the blue H-12-44 before it was BDMX?

Photo Fun, for the 1st week of August...

It's quite normal for a train set to be released in several roadnames, but only one version of the box.

    square or vanderbuilt?

SP did have Vanderbuilt-tendered Atlantics, but I think those tenders were bigger. I like Atlantics, and I like Vanderbuilts, and therefore I like SP Atlantics. But in this case, the Vandy is too small.

    Z Scale Layout Plans?

I'm not sure what radius the existing larger power requires.

New Nscale layout design... version 1

A minimum is a minimum. Even a tiny section of too-tight curve can derail long equipment. Vertical separation of 30" railhead-to-railhead is excessive. I can't recall seeing more than 24".

    MagLev Trains?

Somewhere, I heard about an idea that could make maglev economical. I believe it was "linear induction maglev" or something like that. The track didn't have to be powered. Induced current in the coils in the track created a magnetic field that repelled the coils in the train. Actually, this...
