Hello Mike:wave: As far as the train sets, I don't know:confused: The turnouts are all manual. Look here. http://www.zealot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=162538 The big building is the Lifelike Supply House. http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/433-1398 The vehicles are close enough. I am...

Well, finally have some progress to show. The left side of my layout now has the first layer of ground foam, the track is ballasted, concrete has been poured, and I even made some trees. Loren

    Does this make sense?

Exactly what I do.Just hold the coupler over until you back the other car up to it. My layout is like yours, and I use the skewers only. I have a couple magnets but i use them to pick up junk off the layout ( nails and screws ). Loren

    starting again

Hello Paul, welcome back. You say you have had n and ho layouts. Which scale did you have the most fun working with? I would not worry about whether it's a large or medium layout, but what gives you the most enjoyment. As far as lighting and stuff, can 't help you there. Loren

    Stuck again

Quote " In an area like that, I envision a whole mix of ground covers - bare dirt, weed choked areas, old pavement with crumbling edges being reclaimed by tall grasses, cracked concrete pads with oil stains. Perhaps some broken down fences, scraggly trees, and garbage blowing around. Details...

    Stuck again

Robert, it seems to me that scenery should be done first, then the ballast will be on top like the real thing, not the other way around. That seems logical to me. Loren

    Stuck again

Unfortunately, the dirt around turns a real dark brown when wet, and stays that way when glue is applied. I have tried play box sand, but did not like it. This is part of the wall I am running into. And I have a whole gallon of white glue waiting to be used:mrgreen: Loren

    Stuck again

Thanks for the quick reply, Jim. That's the kind of advice I need. Some of the books I read said to paint the base like I did. Will this be a good start? Will it be to obvious through the ground cover? Loren

Hello all:wave: I am at the point on my layout where I always get stuck. I have scenic 2 small areas and now I don't know what to do next. And if I don't figure out what to do, I will get bored, then frustrated and tear up this layout and start over. Again. I know I want to do scenery first and...
