    Optimus Prime

About 3 months. Sorry, no build diary but here is the system that I found to work for me. First thing was to print and cut out all the parts for a section. The head was built as one complete assembly. For the rest of the sections, small sub-assemblies were built and when dry, they were...

    Optimus Prime

This is a fantastic card model of Optimus Prime from the Transformer film series. The first part to be made was the head. Next, the torso was made. To give an idea of the size, the universal scale measure is shown (tin of beans!) Now come the arms. After the arms...

ALAN ROSE DC3 Now at ZEALOT!!!

Thanks, Zathros. That would be too easy but a 27 page pdf is too big to open, not enough memory! That's why I converted the book to single pages. I spend more than 5 minutes per day, it's 5 minutes here and 5 minutes there! I am only a beginner in Paintshop, (copy & paste, create new layers...

ALAN ROSE DC3 Now at ZEALOT!!!

To print A3 sizes on an A4 printer, I "re-sized" the parts in the following manner:- I have a virtual printer (free download) called "Bulzip pdf" installed. I opened the parts pdf with adobe and printed each page separately to the Bullzip printer, setting the paper size at A3 and no scaling...

ALAN ROSE DC3 Now at ZEALOT!!!

The problem with the alignment of the engine is straight forward. Unfortunately, the model is completed so you cannot see the mod to part 8, however, when I start soon on the full size model, I will take pics of the part 8 mod and post.

ALAN ROSE DC3 Now at ZEALOT!!!

I have just finished mine at approx 1:17 scale (A4 card) and am now busy re-arranging the full size parts to enable me to print "A3" sized parts on A4 sheets. I found in step 8 that the fit of the wing skins was so tight that it creased the leading edges. I found that part No.8 was to blame and...

    White glue as varnish?

This experimentation is for my next project, I am rebuilding it in knockdown form and putting Chitty in a bottle (1 gallon Demijohn!). My completed card model is at http://www.zealot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=171573&highlight=chitty+bang

    White glue as varnish?

Thanks, Zathros for the positive criticism, I tend to agree with you about the tyre. I did another experiment, this time diluting the glue 50/50 with water. I painted it on the inner wheel and it dried to a very nice Satin/Matt finish, I coated the tyre with almost pure glue.

    White glue as varnish?

Here is a quick sample that I did - left to right - original - PVA applied - finished wheel. I only diluted the PVA with 1 drop of water. Diluting it more will result in a much smoother finish.

    White glue as varnish?

Quite by accident, I ended up covering a card part with white glue (PVA). When it had dried, it had dried clear and the colours of the part were not affected but I had a clear protective skin over the part. I then tried it again on another printed part but this time slightly diluted with water...

    How do I remove color

There is a free download program called "Bullzip pdf printer" http://www.bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php It installs as a "printer".You print your pdf to this "printer" and select jpg or bmp output file format. you then modify the file using a "Paint" program as Zathros says. I use this...

Increasing the percentage size for printing

This may be a stupid question, but if I want to build a larger model from an existing pdf file, for example, print all pages at 150% size, will all the parts still fit together or is there some quirk of scaling whereby some parts will be out of alignment? Thanks, Mike

    Ship's ventilator in card

I am a paper, plastic & wooden modeller. At the moment I am scratch building a wooden plank on frame ferry boat and can not figure out a way to make the deck ventilators. I have decided that paper will be the best medium and then overcoat them with filler and then sand and paint. Can anyone...

Le Courbet French battle cruiser from Modelik

THE BASE AND COVER. Dust is the enemy of a paper model: it is impossible to dust it without incurring some sort of damage! It must have some sort of covering, be it inside a glass fronted unit or a dedicated case. I make dedicated cases for my models. They are made from 3mm Ultra high impact...
