    Waldbahner's West Side Story

    painting rails

I think Micro Engineering produce a rust coating that can be applied to rails, and produces the same finish as their ready-weathered rail

    Local Contacts wanted: Lafayette LA

Are there any model railroaders in or around Lafayette, Louisiana? It might be good to get together and share problems and solutions. I know there is a club in Baton Rouge, but this would be for folk not wanting to travel that far. :thumb:

    Another Atlas Turnout Question

 Do you find Code 55 turnouts from Atlas as bad as Code 80? Anyone else have good/bad experiences with Atlas Code 55 turnouts???

What Kind Of American English Do You Speak??

Hi Ron, Both parts are from place names (and the place names from people): Meirion is the county where I was born (Meirionydd) named for an early King Meirion; Gwril is from the village Llwyngwril, 'the grove of [Saint] Gwril'. Hwyl i Bawb! (cheers to everyone)

    Aspen Models mixed gauge track

Has anyone used Aspen Models mixed gauge, N/Nn3? This is part of theirAdvanced Track System, and they recommend soldering for track joining. I'm no solderer - and don't wish to have to develop those skills for the few pieces of track I'd need, so I'm wondering whether anyone knows if you can...

What Code is Maerklin Z gauge rail?

I've checked websites, but cannot find what code Maerklin Z gauge rail is. I'm thinking of using the Aspen mixed N/Nn3 rail, and would like to know which rail height option to go for.

    Double Cross Dilema

Peco code 55 is funny stuff (for example it's no compatible with Atlas code 55). This is because the rail height is the same as code 80, but it is embedded deeper in the ties. In effect it's code 55 on the outside, but deeper on the inside of the ties so that older, deeper flanged wheels will...

    Nn3 track

You can of course use Z gauge track - but the ties (sleepers for UK folk) are too close together to be scale. So Nn3 track is the same width as Z, but the ties are spaced further apart to be scale for 1:160

    Nn3 track

Does anyone know of a supplier of Nn3 track other than Aspen Models? Aspen's prices are pretty steep (over $40 for a turnout). Microtrains make Nn3 cars, but don't seem to have track listed on their website. Aspen's do have dual-gauge track (pretty cool I think:D ) but in terms of single gauge...

    Novelty boxcars

Are there other N-scalers out there who, like me, wonder who buys the novelty boxcars issued by some companies? You know the ones - those with the logos of States, Provinces, Universities, the Military, emblazoned across them. They're not prototypical, so who would wnat a train load of states...

Eh? Could you re-read thru your post and re-write it, as I can't make out what you mean! Is the "are" supposed to be "yard"?

Rebuilding Atlas Layout 25 years later

Hi - good luck with the project. You can get #6 turnouts in Code 55 from Micro Engineering, that are compatible with Atlas 55. See for example http://www.wig-wag-trains.com/Micro-Eng/Micro-Engineering-Track_Product-Page.htm

    Helix/Spiral radii in N Scale?

Has anyone used the German Noch helix system? While expensive, I see they do provide an N Scale system at about 22.5" diameter, and also another wider version.

    car road

Measuring in N scale As Jimbob005 is in the UK, he'll need to bear in mind that N scale is to a slightly different ration than in the US: it's usually worked out as 1:148 rather than 1:160. If you're happy with using mm, then an easy rough equivalence is that 2mm is equivalent to one foot...

    Helix/Spiral radii in N Scale?

I'd like to include helices in my new N layout. I have a run of 2 foot by 11 foot down one wall, linked by a shelf to a 36" long by 30" wide run on the opposite wall. The 2 foot wide run could be widened by maybe 6" or so at its far end to accommodate a helix. I'd like to have a helix at...
