i would remotor it with a can motor if your going to all the trouble to make it DCC compatable.

having been in the hobby for way more years than I like to admit I have seen it come and go several times but this time the old line co's arn't gona be there when the RTR dies out .when i started in thes hobby scratch building was not a want it was a need as i see more and more of the hobby co's...

Andy i know what thats like one time when the temp was hovering in the high teens+100 I spent one afternoon running a air arc( for thoes that don't know a air arc uses a carbon electrode to heat old welds to a liquid state then blasts it off with air) hotter then hades:(

when i used DCC i had a 6 ft program track.

don't have a 2-8-8-2 but had the same problem with a 0-8-0 and Russ nailed it, it was the DCC wire too stiff.

have you tried looking through fallen flags ?

thats a sold out item but i think the my boy has a unbuilt kit but don't rember what road it is will ask him.
