On Discovery Channel - Right Now!

I know! That was crazy. In a way I was not really surprised. I can just imagine the amount of steel and iron that went into a massive steamer like that. There was no plastic panels, dials or rubber hoses on those old guys either like they use in modern engine builds today. It...

    22 gauge wire

Andrew is right. I meant to mention that as well. Solid is a pain in the butt to strip and most often just breaks. Plus if you've solder a connection and start to move it around too much it breaks. ...and like Andrew....Don't ask how I know that! wall1

    Ohhh Boy...

So while I've been diligently working away at the small details on my layout, I've been contemplating something drastic. With the addition of a seven foot section in the works, the bench work completed and ready to be installed, I've been getting ideas. The idea would involve a major do over...

    22 gauge wire

The only place I have come across solid 22 gauge wire only at work. Around here we use it to wire up cctv systems and access control hardware. Thus whenever a job is done, there is plenty left over for me to rescue from the dumpster. Because that is where it will usually end up. I'm sure...

On Discovery Channel - Right Now!

It's 9:10 and there is a show called Monster Moves. Two separate moving companies are doing jobs. One is moving an old train station and the other is moving a couple of locos. Both locos are UP. One is a modern loco called The Centennial. The other is a Big Boy. Check it out if you...

    Toronto Xmas Train Show

I'll be there for the 10 am opening on Sunday and stick around for a couple of hours. I'll be wearing a long black leather trench coat, hoodie and jeans. Just call me Mr. Sunshine. ;-) LOL!!!

    So what has happened here?

I found these on a friends Facebook profile gallery. He called it the "fail train" as he and a couple of comments seem to think that the train derailed. I say...if it had...then where is the CARNAGE??? In the above photo, one person called the small yellow rectangle bolted to the tracks...

This was sitting in my friend's engine track!

Nice. I read the review in Model Railroader Mag. They commented that you need near perfect track work in order for it to run smoothly. Can you comment on that? Any problems so far?

    Does this make sense?

Bamboo skewers. I do plan to place a couple of magnets in "hard to reach spots". However, I like to use the skewers to uncouple my cars in the freight yard.

I just called Walthers and ordered five sets (two sets of wheels and axle in each pack). The Operator knew exactly what part number I was looking for.

time to get started on a new layout

Hey Kevin, Looking at that last photo, I'm wondering if maybe you'd like to locate the ground throw on the outside of the track instead on the inside where it is now? Not trying to make more work for you, just wondering if it would be better situated on that side? I imagine with it being...

Some Union Station / Via Track Side Photos.

Thought I'd share a few pics I'd taken downtown a few weeks ago. # 915 pulling her train heading east towards Union Station. And then a surprise in the middle... Of course I took pictures of the track work in the area. Some hoppers loaded with ballast. I then moved further west...

    scratch built turntable

In case anyone has tried the link that goes to Able Audio says the website has been hacked. Don't know how long its been that way, however, might be good to avoid if your computer is not well protected in case you pick up some malware or something nasty.

    Proto 2000 Loco Help.

Thanks everyone. I started to disassemble the loco last night. I actually have another one which does the same thing, although not as pronounced as this one. So I'll have two to look into. I'll have to make a trip to the LHS to get some proper lube. This is good to know. The trucks are...
