    Canada Malting Plant

Oh no! Robin is building in (gasp!) PLASTIC! All kidding aside Robin, incredible, just absolutely awsome.

    Weathering Stripwood

Well Trainclown, I'd say that qualifies as a dilapidated structure! Kinda reminds me of the time I dumped that box of wooden toothpicks on the floor!

    city layout

I think the key would be to make sure it looks natural, either have a hill, or retaining wall or something. The real world has different elevations, so to me nothing looks as unnatural as something completely flat.

    Has anyone tried interchangable industries?

Thanks all! It's good to know it's not completely off-the-wall, as so many of my ideas are. Since I really enjoy building structures, it'll give me a chance to build more than I could fit on my layout too. I'll let you know how it goes when I finally begin construction!

    Has anyone tried interchangable industries?

I posted this on RR-line too, but I thought I might as well get some more opinions. As some of you know I've been in the planning stages of a layout for quite some time. First in the basement, where dampness and comfort are issues, and now upstairs in a room that currently holds the book...

    Coal burning powerplant

Robin, Amazing. Absolutely amazing. Whenever you post a new set of pics I call a co-worker (who's not a model railroader) over to see. He says you have MUCH more patience than he has. Dumb question: what's a router lathe?

    Coal burning powerplant

Robin - Absolutely amazing work. I've said it before, you can do more with cardboard and most of us could do with a $100 kit, even if we paid someone to build, paint, and detail it for us. If I were wearing a hat I'd tip it to you! Keep up the great work, and keep posting it for us mere...

    Oil drilling rig

Robin, I am always amazed at how great your cerealboard and cardboard structures look. Especially in N scale! What you do with simple tools and paper-products looks better than what most of us could produce with a complete workshop and a truckload of supplies. Keep up the great work, I...

    Little Lost Dog

Good for you! My wife and I are jointly owned by three cats (all of whom I had before I met my wife). Two were strays I took in, the other "belonged" to people who neglected her so I rescued her too. They've been great friends for me, sometimes my only friends.

    Headin' for home

Casey, It certainly looks like a Mantua unit to me. Those puppies usually run really well (IMHO), I've got a couple that'll pull the sheet rock off the walls. Depending on how near-and-dear to your heart it is, you could probably get it running well again. Model Power now sells Mantua parts.

    Time for the wife?

My wife has no interest in trains, but at least appears interested when I show her the fruits of my labor. She's very supportive of my hobby, for my birthday she bought me a couple engines and a box of stuff from Micro Mark (all stuff I picked out). I've said this before, she knows she could...

    Woman Killed

I take a commuter line to work, and at my station you have to cross the tracks to get from the parking lot to the platform. A few months ago this woman wasn't watching what she was doing, cut it too close in front of the train to begin with, then tripped and fell in her high-heels on the...

Light the Candles for Topo and mhdishere

Sorry folks, didn't have a chance to sign on yesterday! VERY busy day! Thanks for the well-wishes. It was a great day, spent with my in-laws also celebrating Father's Day (not applicable to me, unless you count the cats) and other birthdays. I'm one of those unusual guys who gets along...

    Fantasy Industries

How about a bow and arrow factory for all those elvish archers? The Dwarves did a lot of metalwork, so the Mithril ore could be shipped t smelters to turn into pig-mithril, which would then be shipped to the places where it would be made into whatever. The Dwarves also mined jewels...

    Question on making bricks

One of the major industries on my planned layout will (hopefully) be a foundry. Since none of the commercial kits suit me I'll probably end up scratch building. Since I'm frugal (OK, cheap) and I've seen some great work one in cardboard here on the Gauge, I thought I'd probably build in...

    Q - Acrylic Craft Paint

As someone who's been-there-done-that, I'd say you'd BETTER so something to keep the wood from warping. I painted only the outside of a nice little freight depot and had a heck of a time getting the walls straight again. I have 1/4" square basswood glued to the inside of all four walls. It...

    Quad Cities Rocket?
