    new Product?

Belg, It might still work for you if you choose your molds carefully. For instance, OO scale bricks could be used for N scale cinderblock.

    A CP station

Robin, I did something similar with shingles, but instead of using the sissors I used a couple pieces of scrap wood to hold the shingle strip in position on my chopper so that the near side of the blade (the part that doesn't usually do any cutting on the chopper) would cut the notches. Worked...

Take a Train To work Day

I had good intentions for bringing a model train to work today, but it never materialized. Since I commute by NJ transit train, Path, and Subway it would have had to be something I could fit in my backpack, something not too delicate, etc. It just never happened. Oh well, next year.

    Paint stripping

Gary, Sounds like interesting stuff, I'll see what I can do to find some. I've also read about soaking in a mixture of laundry detergent and water, so I might give that a try too since we just went to Costco and bought a BIG bottle of detergent! I'd imagine that would be safe for just about...

    Paint stripping

I know, another thread on paint-stripping. I've searched the archives, both here at RR-Line, and have a couple questions. First, background, I bought a bunch of Harriman cars from MDC on their clearance sale and want to strip the paint. I contacted MDC and, after telling me I should have...

    Isn't it funny.

Chalk me up for this problem too! Last Saturday I spent hours blowing, raking, and piling leaves for pick-up, but I did get some modelling done afterward and yesterday. Some weekends I don't get anything done train-wise. I find that the more modelling time I get the better my mood is on...

    Home Cut Lumber

I cut all my own strip-wood too, but do it differently from everyone else who posted here. I use balsa almost exclusively, and I use this little tool from Micro Mark: Cutter Tool to cut my strips. A couple notes, Micro Mark claims that the tool will hold a #24 blade for cutting wood...

    What say ye?

I personally have no problem avoiding the modern stuff, I model late 40's-early 50's and 100% steam. (In fact I'd probably back-date to pre-war if I could find reasonably priced vehicles for that era). I have some cars that don't really belong in my era, but they're still 40 foot box-cars...

    The Holidays are coming ...

    1. Will you purchase train related gifts for friends or club members this year? It's tempting to buy train related stuff for my wife, since she's not into trains so I get to play with them! Seriously, I'm a lone-wolf modeller, so I don't have any train-people I buy gifts for. I do suggest...

    Where's all our builders?????

Perfection has not been a problem so far! Since I've been doing most of my scratch-building from balsa using white glue, I seem to spend a lot of time waiting for glue to dry. Plus finding time during the week is hard, and if we're busy on the weekend, well, you know how it is. Seriously...

    Train Song Lyrics

C.W. McCall did a bunch of train songs, including a re-do of the City of New Orleans. For those of you who don't know, C.W. McCall was they guy who sang "Convoy" back in the 70's. He had one song about the Gallopin' Goose: On a cold November mornin' Back in nineteen-thirty-seven With an...

    51 years

Congratulations! If I had a glass I'd raise it to you, as it is I'll raise my coffee cup! When my wife and I married almost four years ago I decided I wasn't going to take marriage advice from ANYONE who hasn't been happily married for at least ten years and was still married.

    Where's all our builders?????

Belg, I've been working, but don't have a digital camera. Once I have my current project (a coal and fuel-oil dealer) finished I'll take some film pictures of it and get them on CD and upload them. Still got a ways to go though, the coal silos are done, the office is about 60 percent done...

    Revell/Concor Big Boy

You might be able to catch one on e-bay, there are a couple out there now in the $200 price range. There would be a lot more than the expense of the engines too, you'd have to figure out some way to attach them so one (or both) sets of drivers can pivot.

    Revell/Concor Big Boy

One thing that comes to mind for me is to get a couple of eight-drivered engines (mikados, consolidations) and use those for the mechanism, then install the boiler on top of them. You might be able to find the mechanisms at a train show, look for something that took a dive to the floor and...

How many do you really need?

    1. How many locomotives do you really need for your layout? Or how many locomotives do you want to have? I could probably run my planned layout with three or four engines. I own 11 plus a doodlebug. I'd probably buy more, but I am particular about what I buy. I'm modelling a branch-line, I...

    Double Diamond Ranch

Robin, Absolutely fantastic, as always. Once you placed the rocks, did you paint them then add the dry-wall compound as mortar? I'm thinking this technique would work great for a passenger terminal I'm planning.
