    JV models sawmill construction

I think I solved the tar paper problem. A couple years ago I bought the DPM Harlee and Son's cycle shop and it's roof was covered in tar paper supplied in the kit. it's a very thin black construction paper, almost as thin as typing paper. Turns out there's enough left over for this project and...

Thanks. I ran out of lumber so this is going to be the way it is, except for some tar paper covering the mis-matched roof section. I think I might work on the ground cover this weekend if all goes well. the basic cover will be easy, then I add all the junk, weeds, roadway, ect.

Great shots everyone. Mason Jar. I really like the truck model. I have a Jordon Essex thats been sitting in the box for ten years. One of these days I'll have to try my hand at assembling it. Doctor Wayne. Love the SW unit. Stylings of CN but you still made it you own railroad. As for me I...

    My SD9 rebuild

I see I didn't realize the difference until you pointed it out. Unfortunetly I have two of those squared tops but none of the rounded.

    My SD9 rebuild

You mean like this: This is an old Athearn Cab but I don't know what model its from. It does have the number boards you're after though.

Okay I placed the sawmill on my layout to size the whole area up. I haven't laid any scenery in this sectiojn yet other than painting the plywood. I wanted to have the sawill done before that so I can place gravel roads, wast wood piles ect in the right places. Logs in Lumber out...

    JV models sawmill construction

I'm trying to make the tar paper look new so it wouldn't be wrinkled. I'd leave the ends rolled to make it look like it's being rolled on and I'm only covering the half and half sections

Finally, the roof! I wasn't able to make the roof removable. I tried but the only way I could get the roof to sit properly on the walls was to glue it. On the other hand I had always planned to leave one half of the roof off so you could see inside: The only problem is that the roofing...

2'X 8' isn't so bad, that's what I started with and had lots of fun with the detailing. I managed to put a switchback on mine so at least the trains would look like they were going somewhere!

Okay I'm pretty much finished with the interior. I built the belts: They are made from evergreen HO scale 1X8 that makes it thin enough to pass as belt material. I bent them around a piece of aluminum tubing (same diameter as the pulleys) and dipped them in boiling water. Then I trimmed...

    Athearn U33-b

I am considering putting a Grey speed stripe along the long hood, halfway up. it would have a round end just before the cab and wrap around the long hood end. Bordering it with a thin yellow pinstripe and then the rest of the engine in either a medium blue or coach green. I have also considered...

    Athearn U33-b

Here's what I've got to work with: I stripped and primered it last night. I'm thinking of a custom paint job, using grey, yellow and blue or green.

Gus, You're pretty much right about the under ground helix. The Spiral tunnels are located between Field, BC and lake Louise, Alberta. Before the building of the tunnels the CPR had to contend with it's 'BIg Hill' that had grades of 4.5% It had 3 safety switches that, if a train comming...

    Athearn U33-b

I recently picked up an old Athearn U33-B engine but None were ever imported into Canada as far as I know. Could some US Diesel Guys answer a couple questions? 1) When were they first built? 2) are they considered a second generation diesel? 3) What roads did have them? (this is probably a...

Great shots everyone! Tom I really like those proto shots. I have a DVD of the J and I find it amongst the most attractive steamers out there. On that note I thought I'd share this: This is the remains of a narrow guage engine that the CPR used to build the spiral Tunnels. It was so worn...

Bunk Car / MofW Car (scratchbuild)

Oh I see now. It looks like an intresting build. I'm guessing you are in the habit of painting/staining your wood after the build?
