DCC or DC to power trains

Gary...no need to apologize to me at all....I wasn't in the least offended, and whenever I use a bunch of "smilies", like ;) :D , I'm just nudge-nudge-wink-winking at the topic, and the participants. Also, I wasn't trying to beat up on your point of view....I was raised on sarcasm being...

DCC or DC to power trains

Hi Gary. In the interests of "keeping things factual here", my name is Mike....not Ron........ Perhaps obsolescence was an inappropriate choice of terms, but I think it fits with DCC systems. The mere fact that every year, "better and better" systems, decoders, what have you, are...

DCC or DC to power trains

Shawn, good luck with whatever you choose, but a poll in a model RR forum isn't maybe the best avenue by which to accumulate data, and base a decision. It just gets too polarized, and the percentage of model railroaders actually participating, is so small as to be meaningless. Like 45 hobbyists...

Lost in a sea of terminology

While I was playing with my electric trains, I noticed none of my old Athearn disgustingly-widebodied Geeps have M.U. hoses. So, instead of worrying, I just consider those who have them, to be "Hosers"...:D This is a Canadian term, not totally derogatory, but definitely of limited...

    If only

A million bucks ? Canadian money ? The bad: that's only about US$680,000.. ( so that's only about 2 brass engines and a couple of short strings of today's ready-to-run freight cars, right ?) ;) The good : there are NO taxes on lottery winnings in Canada. I asked a couple of local...

    Engine yard cinders

Railron; THANKS for the nice B &W photo. B & W conveys the feeling of an true-to-life old-time historical RR shot...we need to see more of these IMHO.:D :D :D regards / nostalgic old train nut Mike:)

    What's a junction?

At the risk of returning to the topic itself, ;) a junction often resulted in the "creation" of a town or village that only came to exist because of the railroad's chosen route. A very early example [1830's], is Frederick Junction, on the B & O. In the earliest days of the railroad, on it's...

    LPB's on Strike!

Good news for Management ? Bad news for P.L.O.P.? The wacko Raelians have agreed to do some Test Cloning for model rail tycoons...the little people they will absolutely prove they've cloned, will be even more realistic than the horrible gene-manipulated LPB Preiser & Merten mutants. ;)...

    Joke of the day

Billk....I 'think' that quotation was supposedly from Steven Seagal, but probably someone else wrote it for him. regards / Mike:D :D

    Question re water level

Way to go Val ! Stay stoked ! :D Send pics....! BTW, on dock height, don't forget that ocean-going vessels "adjust" their displacement to some degree by use of their ballast tanks...which is why we have the zebra mussel problem throughout the Great Lakes. best regards / Mike

Ottawa Science & Tech Locos to move?

Just joking, Andrew, about Sheila swiping the trains for Hamilton...[I hope]. :( After all, at least a million $ was spent recently JUST TO OPEN a channel, so the warship Haida could be moved from Toronto to Hamilton. I don't begrudge the $ for repairs to the ship. regards / Mike ;)

    Photos of Flat Car Loads

Good pictures. I can't help but think, that if a model manufacturer issued a flatcar with a load of turquoise pipes, a lot of modelers would think it ''toylike'' or ''unrealistic''.... ...or say something like: "That is SO Tyco !" You just never know, do you ? Regards / Mike:D

How do you keep it clean????

Aart, you did a fine job. The fold-up plywood sections are impressive. The back and sides lend themselves very well to that thin-profile "3-D" textured backdrop we discussed by e-mail, and you can fold them out flat for applying the foam materials. best regards / Mike:) :)

    Struggling along...

Nice looking work, t. Strange to say, but I get a bit envious when I see open, new benchwork & risers...it makes me want to rip out everything I have built, (yet again ), and start over,( yet again). I probably will, too. There aren't many hobbies that can boast that one of the MOST...

How to insult a model railroader ?

I don't think the "poor unwashed non-believers" who are not Model Railroaders can really insult us at all...they are more to be pitied than anything. :o TRUE insults have to come from another actual Model Railroader:eek: ...you know, like a 7 page DCC vs. DC "war" over on the Atlas forum...:D...

    Image Restrictions

Dumb question from computer-illiterate old-guy Is there an easy way to look up / determine the image size? I don't have a digital camera, and a friend is scanning my prints and emailing them back to me. I save them in a 'my computer' file, in Windows 98, as JPEG files. The size reference on...

    Lumberjack Stories

jon; will you be actually modelling Paul Bunyan and Babe the Ox, and their friends, on your railroad...? If so, will you use G scale figures to reflect their size ? [;)] I believe GN Big Sky Blue is pretty close to blue ox blue, but maybe it's RI Bankruptcy blue ???? [:D] regards / Mike
