Philosophical Q - scale vs looks right

Years ago, I often used the '3 foot rule'...if it looked good from 3 feet away, it was ok....now, even with bifocals, it's a '2 foot rule'. IMHO, the main thing about using off-scale components, [usually oversize], is to maintain a good degree of proportion, and make good use of painting and...

    SPAM E-Mail from GILBERT HO

Most people don't care who intends to "boycott" companies or individuals who send spam emails. Just delete what you don't like. Spam emails trying to sell product are no more annoying to me than paper spam [ flyers] in the snail mail, most of which go in the recycle box....but I can't...

Circumference of a Circle of Track for Helix

I thought Irrational Numbers were the ones used by federal, state, provincial, municipal & school board budget departments to calculate our taxes !!! ;) Anyway, I am sorry, Trainclown, I really thought you were kidding us, partly because of the nickname you chose. BTW...there was a thread a...

Circumference of a Circle of Track for Helix

Pi was 3.1416 when I went to school, nevertheless, I am glad you have 'found' this way to calculate the circumference of a circle. ;) ;) Trainclown....you are joking with us, I assume ??? :D If not, my apologies. regards / Mike

    Using 0 gauge uncoupling magnets.

Good idea Shamus. Only thing I would suggest is to use a piece of 1/16" styrene sheet instead of the cardstock, as it won't react to the moisture during ballasting. regards / Mike

    4 track bridge

cacmage; I don't know where you are located, and whether your layout room is subject to varying humidity between seasons, but most of us have to deal with that, even if our layouts are up on a ground floor. No offense, but the lumber as shown in your photograph looks to be of a type that...

    New Suspension Bridge Diorama

CSX6638; Valid points, but there's a couple of reasons why there's no figures on the unit. The prototype is 410' long, but because my client's display case width was limited, I had to compress the model a lot. It only scales at about 210' long. To partially compensate, I made the...

    New Suspension Bridge Diorama

Tom; The basic 'box' was built with 5/8" particle board, all straight edges with 45 degree gusset corners. The fascia is 1/8" Masonite, freeform jigsawed. I glued my blue styrofoam up to the Masonite edges. Paint on the Masonite is just Hunter Green craft paint, "Plaid" brand. Then...

    New Suspension Bridge Diorama

Even though not a strictly 'railroad' bridge, I thought the 'bridge fans' might like to see this one. It's a diorama I just finished, featuring a pedestrian suspension bridge, currently being built at Scenic Caves, near Collingwood. This model will be going into a display at a tourism...

    Attaching homasote?

This is a puzzler....everyone is trying to help Val as best they can, and everyone thinks their recommendation is best. So Val has to be Solomon in this, to truly take best advantage of all the suggestions, and combine ALL of these methods.[;)] So, it's half-inch foam, glued to the plywood...
