    My Bridge Project

it looks great!! I do have one question. Call me a rivet counter but wouldn't a bridge like that have supports under each side of the truss section? Maybe you could affix a couple blocks of wood to the bridge painted like cement piers

    double crossing

If your doing code 83 the atlas version are very compact so 2" centers would be just fine. I did see an article once in one of the N scale magazines where they scratchbuilt the Rochelle diamonds. Not something I would partake in but impressive nonetheless. Jake

    KCS CSX loco

Nice pic. Here I still see quite a variety. BNSF grain & coal, IC, & GTW units on the CN and UP on the UP of course.

    Digitrax decoder wiring of LED

Nice video. It brings some interesting new ideas to the table like the styrene board with holes in it. That would work except if you are planning on having a function light such as a strobe and or gumball light. Reason being when your strobe is on and either your headlight or rearlight...

Taking digital pics of a model railroad tutorial ?

Here is what I do when taking pictures. First I take a lot because the first one and most likely the second one will not turn out how you want. One huge thing that helps is getting one of those reflector lights and pointing it usually near the subject but not on the subject. When I take...

    Finally, got some progress made!

I got a tip for those of ya that don't like ballasting..... If your modeling HO try ballasting N scale track then go back to HO and it seems sooo much easier. I've spent about a half hr just getting the ballast the way i wanted it then did the gluing down. Then a few months down the road went...

    My Layout in Fort Dodge

To piggyback off all that, I did end up cutting the height from 43" to 39" and the width is now 36" because I tried to reach over to the back and that was doable but not going to be comfortable come scenery time. Thanks Bob about the room. I still need to paint the trim but I wanted to get...

    My Layout in Fort Dodge

you are correct on the framework and legs. As for the plywood i went with 5/8" or 19/32 as Menards labels it. It was about $20 for a 4x8 sheet but i thought it was worth it. Also this plywood is about 6 ply which just happens to be how it came. I would recommend at least 4ply to prevent...

    My Layout in Fort Dodge

Here's my latest progress. I cut out some more pieces for the sub-roadbed. I got stuck on taking pictures of those autoracks at eye level because the blue wall that i painted makes for such a beautiful sky. Those pictures are stuck on my laptop at the moment though. Enjoy, Jacob

    Murphy's Laws of Model Railroading

I saw this over on the Trains.com model railroader forum and I thought we could come up with some of our own. I cant think of any of my own at the moment but I'm sure some of you will have some good ones. Heres the link to what they had...

    My Layout in Fort Dodge

I would love to do that but i'm trying to keep it as simple as possible because I'm in the military and I tend to move every 3-5 years. Otherwise I'd love to wrap it all the way around. Jake

    My Layout in Fort Dodge

    Off Topic-Scam warning.

A guy I used to work with got a similar warning from cox because of "Paramount" although he was of course downloading star trek episodes from Kazaa too but it isn't necessarily a scam. I think he temporarily got his internet account suspended because of it.

Techniques for laying perfectly straight Flex-Track…

I feel your pain. hamr I have made up a test track with HO & N scale and I nailed down the HO with a straight edge and it looked almost flawless. Then I nailed the N the same way and it looks straightish The only way I've found to get N scale track to come out completely straight is contact...

    Bridge attempt

Nice job. I think it looks good also because its not a whole bridge. I think it gives me some more ideas for making more modern bridges.

    Covering a logo?

Heres the similar color method I did a couple years ago. http://www.the-gauge.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=18475&stc=1&d=1098748338 I just painted over the PC reporting marks and made it CR. I didn't even touch the PC logo. I know this is a heartache to you PC fans out there :D but a...

    DCC and the Airport

Here's a random thought I had this evening while finishing my install of my bathroom exhaust fan. If I were to take a trip and bring my DCC throttle with me so I could use it at a layout that I might be visiting. I would want to bring it in my carry-on so it wouldn't get damaged in my...
