Real railroad workers & model railroading?

My dad works for the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad as a Tower Operator. Before the IHB he was working for the CB&Q then of course the BN but they closed the tower he was working at so someone offered him a job at the IHB and hes been there since. I believe hes been working for the railroad for...

I remember watching that when i was little and now I'm 25. Good old PBS entertainment. I'll have to go through some of the VHS tapes at my parents next time I'm home. I dont think i saw the last episodes and until someone mentioned George Carlin I didn't even know he was one of the...

What have you learned from model railroading?

Another thing I learned which is kinda in a reverse order is. I learned basic electronics in my technical training for the Air Force. This has helped my understanding of the electronics side of the hobby that would have taken me muuch longer to learn had I not joined the Air Force.

Question for all you Canadians, (Americans too)

So its kinda like one of those Hot Dog stands they have in the Chicago area. A little shack on the corner of a busy intersection. Next time I head over to my parents i'll have to snap a shot of it. That thing's been a landmark for years off Sauk Trail & 394 if thats familiar to anyone.

What have you learned from model railroading?

I, personally, have learned that on top of all things there are always a list of projects to do. I have a whole moving box of kits, trees, decoders, locomotives for the decoders, i beams, etc, etc. Also I have learned that if you are intimidated or feel overwelmed about doing something. Jump...

    Conrail Blue Boxcar?

I have the photo encyclopedia of Conrail from 76-87 and the closest thing is those rare yellow can opener boxcars. Pretty much the only rolling stock that was blue was the cabooses and passenger cars. I did see a crane in there in Conrail blue.

    30"x48" N setup

I forgot that ethernet wire is low loss cable because it's twisted pair. Anyhow I use 22 gage wire for my feeders and i plan to use 18gauge lamp cord wire around my room but then again its only a 9.5x11 room so it wont be much voltage drop. Besides thats the standard for Ntrak and they had...

    Any digitrax guys here?

I've noticed programming troubles when the track or wheels are not pristinely cleaned. I would recommend running a bright boy along the track and see if that helps your programming options. If that doesn't work then try cleaning the loco's wheels. I've never gotten that while programming...

    My Layout in Fort Dodge

Heres my latest progress on my layout. I started out trying to use regular L brackets for shelves but they took too much adjusting for level from front to back so I decided to cut 1x4s & 1x6's to make brackets that are square to begin with. My next project to tackle is bringing the track...

Well I got off work early today and barely made it home. I got to the end of my driveway and turned the keys then walked up to my house for the shovel. So after snowblowing my driveway out (thanks to my neighbor), i pulled the truck into the garage and decided that i couldn't do anything else...

    Need advice.

Some railroads use the F59PHI the new body of the above pictured GO transit loco. Other railroads use the MP36PHI of which I don't believe anyone produces a model of yet and I wish they would.:curse: Jake
