    Scratchbuilt factory

Thanks nkp174. My degree in Engineering is also BS! sign1 I agree that a large industry can certainly dominate a layout, but in this case it will be on a peninsula that is 8 ft long, surrounded by a 12 ft x 16 ft around-the-walls layout. With that kind of space, i'm not too worried, and of...

    Scratchbuilt factory

That must have been a very sad sight. I was only around for the demolition of Massey Ferguson, and found it heartbreaking. I missed the Inglis destruction, and I rarely go back to that part of town, which was once one of my favourite places. It's too upsetting. Val

    Weekend projects

Glen, I have the MT Arms kit still in the box, so I'll be curious to see what you do with yours. As for my weekend activities, I worked on a scratchbuilt version of part of the John Inglis factory complex. http://forum.zealot.com/t152768/ Inglis made consumer appliances and industrial...

    Scratchbuilt factory

Wayne, to a large extent it was architecture that drew me into model railroading, although I also love the old steam engines. Like you, I didn't pay much attention to trains as a child - beyond waving to the engineer on my mother's prompting, at the level crossing near our local plaza. Nor did I...

harbinger of sad things to come?

I am very sorry to hear this news. Shamus has been a true inspiration to the hobby, and a wonderful mentor to many of us. Val

    Scratchbuilt factory

Neat quote Andrew! In my case however it's a fond memory of something I did experience and grew to love. I lived in that area during the 70s and 80s, and spent many Sunday afternoons wandering along the tracks. It wasn't so much the trains I wanted to experience, as that timeless feeling of...

    Scratchbuilt factory

Thanks for the kind comments everyone! Scott, this will be sort of a background building. The sides of the prototype are only 2 sets of windows deep, so I will build those, but the back will not be modelled. As it is now, the length is 13-1/2". Agree with you on the townhouse thing too! Val

    Scratchbuilt factory

My layout will be serving 2 primary industries: Massey Ferguson, and this one: John Inglis Co. During WWII Inglis converted to munitions production and made the famous Bren Gun and the Inglis Automatic pistol. Post-war they re-tooled to meet the demand for consumer products such as major...

    Maid of all work...

Wayne, I really love that section of your layout! The corridors through the industrials buildings are something that I've been trying to acheive, without much success to date, but you've really nailed it!!! Thanks for the inspiration!! Val

    Weekly photo fun 9-21-07

That's an very impressive engine w8! As we were discussing in chat last night, this was the model for the computer animated engine in the movie The Polar Express. I'm a big fan of the original book by Chris Van Allsburg, and looking at the cover illustration I'm quite sure the engine in his...

Wow! A most impressive collection of photo's!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: In keeping with the black and white theme, here are some shots from my old layout that I don't think I've ever posted. A couple of switchers, one diesel, one steam working the area around Massey Fergusson, and a flatcar...

Congrats TW!!!!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: I know how long you've been trying, and I can't understand why they rejected some of the photo's you submitted. No argument with this photo though - it's amazing!! Crisp, colourful and dramatic. And yes, that scene begs to be modelled. :D Val

    Flat structure, perspective correction

As mentioned the perspective of the bottom part of the building looks good, the top not so much. Although I'm not sure how the program you're using works, maybe the solution is to print what you have, cut off the top part, then do another image where you correct the perspective only for that top...

    Layout Progress Update 09/24/07

Progress Report 09/24/07 Over the last few days I've been able to lay the track in the yard, wire it, test it, and today I spray painted the rails. I'm happy to report that my long flat-cars run perfectly though the yard ladder. On my old layout I had used Peco set-track turnouts in the...

    Wiring help needed for yard

No problem Play-doh, although you might get more responses if you started a new thread - this one is pretty much done. To answer your question about wires. Feeder wires are thinner wires (18 - 20 AWG) that drop down from the tracks to the Bus wire. The bus wire is thicker (12 - 16 AWG) and...
