Its been a few years, now I have some questions

The only engine builder that uses a B to designate a diesel hood locomotive with 4 axles would be General Electric, for locomotives like the U33B, B23-7, B40-8, etc. General Motors (EMD) uses the "GP" designation for 4-axle road-switcher hood locos, such as GP7, GP15, GP38-2, GP40X, etc...

What do you like to put your layout board on top of?

The reason why most of us like to purpose-build benchwork for a layout rather than use a table is so we can run the wiring underneath it. You can do that with a table too, but you will have to drill through the table. Not an option if you need the table for other things.

Its been a few years, now I have some questions

I think the GP38 is just about the perfect engine for your purposes: It's general purpose (that's what the GP stands for), and it looks good doing switching in a yard, or hauling a local freight, or even in a consist hauling a mainline train. It's the right engine for the blue/yellow/vermillion...

Anybody know where I can get a model of this?

I own a BLI HO-scale New York Central J1e Hudson 4-6-4 with DCC and sound, and I can confirm that particular 4-6-4 configuration works fine on 18"-radius track. I bought it specifically for that reason, so I can bring it over to my little nephew's house and run it on his Thomas the Tank Engine...

    G.E.C's layout pictures

Yea.. Doing a search at Walthers shows that the undec Horizon cars are "retired." I guess that means Walthers is discontinuing the undecs. Well, at least the SEPTA Horizons are pretty straightforward to paint... Just grab any of the Horizons, strip it with ELO, shoot on a nice satiny layer...

    Conrail Snow plows?

Not so fast! Bunsuf had some locos that used those same plows! :D http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=32024

    Is this a SW1500 or a SW7

I remember seeing something similar on SP and DRGW F-units that operated in the Rockies... Those on the SP and DRGW locos were used for breaking icicles off tunnel portals and such. Don't know about the ones on Wayne's locos though (if they are not something behind them, LOL).

    Dash 9 Loco Parts

You need them for the Athearn C44-9W, correct? If that's the one you are looking for, you can get them here: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ATH49417 or you can get the generic ones from Kato (not specific for the C44-9W but looks close enough) for cheaper, here...

    Conrail Snow plows?

Heya Green, The plow on CR GP38 #7868 was actually the same one used on Amtrak SDP40Fs back in the 1970s: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=170995 Details West used to make one, but they discontinued it. They also discontinued the plow that goes on the F40PHs, which is bigger but...

    trouble with power at crossing

I don't know if the rails in the crossing's "diamond" are powered (never used a crossing myself so I don't know).. But if they are not, that's probably why your engine stalls. You can power those rails by soldering some wires. That might solve your problem.

Digitrax Sound for Kato AC4400 and F40PH

I went to Digitrax's site and looked at the manual for the soundFX decoder.. Looks like you will have to load a new sound file to the decoder using their PR2 programming unit if you want to change the engine sounds. My impression from looking at the manual is that you can't change the recorded...

    Newb question about track wiring

You can just buy these: Atlas makes those. They are terminal joiners. Hope this helps!

I just cant figure it out

LOL, using Thomas as a helper engine! I think your son has gotten into the spirit of the TV show for sure. :thumb: Yeah back in the 1980s a lot of manufacturers such as Life Like, AHM, Model Power, etc. imported their stuff from Yugoslavia, most likely by a company called Mehano. Sometimes...

    G.E.C's layout pictures

SWEET! That Pennsy GG1 is classic. Gotta love the Escargots too. Anyway, just one little observation... The station platform looks kind of naked without a track on both sides.. Maybe you can extend a stub track to the end of the platform. Makes for a good place to park a passenger...

problem putting together pieces to train

Yeah I think the ECAFB just gets glued to the shell via the posts that's on the box-- It's supposed to sit away from the body. That's why there are no mounting holes for it. In the future when you feel more confident, you can just put a spot of super glue on the standoffs on the ECAFB, and...

problem putting together pieces to train

Heya Prodigy2K7, The piece you circled near the top of the photo is the electrical cabinet air filter box (ECAFB) I think. If that's what it was, it goes behind the cab on the walkway on the fireman's side. Look at the photo I enclosed below (I circled the ECAFB). The two black pieces are...

    New Mexico Rail Runner

Yup MB Klein usually has pretty good prices for locos... It looks like they are out of stock for the Bombardier coaches though. Toy Train Heaven has the Bombardier bilevel coaches in NMDOT paint for $22 apiece...

I just cant figure it out

CNWMan: LifeLike also has a cheap toy line, and their toy line are nothing like the Protos in quality. That loco could very well be from their toy line. Hiscopilot: Good luck and let us know how it works out with the weights. :thumb:
