    Decisions and Dilemmas...

Take a look at the Bachmann site. There is a whole section on On30. The selection is not as good as Ho of course, but they have several different types of locos and cars. If you are modeling say 1875 to about 1940's then the choice is not too bad, especially if you are modeling branchline...

    Leave of Absence

Gotta 36" x 15' layout in my RV, and no basement! On30, 2 Shays and a mogul. Course, I don't have a wife or pets!

    3 Truck Shay Engine--speed

I come across articles that said the Shay worked grades as high as 16%. One of the comments I came across said that a Shay would climb a tree if it could get a toehold.

Hope you have a layout in that RV! I'd hate to hear that you went into withdrawals from model trains by being away from them that long. lol

Totally off topic however statisitics are a hoot ..

My thoughts are that the people who kill themselves with guns are too stupid to own a gun, or to live, for that matter, and we are better off without them. It's called "natural selection". I know that's not PC, but then again I'm not PC to begin with, and don't intend to ever be.

Next thing you know, our government will want to outlaw lazer pointers like the Aussies did. What a joke!

Did a little checking on the internet for Kennasaw. The Kennasaw police dept's statisitcs show that the crime rate has decreased from 33-35% every year since the gun law was passed, even thought the population has increased significantly. Yeah..we need more restrictive gun laws!! lol

Totally off topic however statisitics are a hoot ..

There was a town in Georgia that during one of the gun control and ban crazes a few years ago, made it a law that all head of households in that town had to own and know how to use a gun. They said the crime rate dropped in that town to almost nothing. I know if I was a criminal I'd damn sure...

    early era

I wanted to go with the 1830-1870's but can't find anything but the Bachman John Bull and Dewitt Clinton. I have both and they are nothing but toy junk. Ended up going with the early 1900's cause that's as early as I can find anything available that is worth anything.

    Using DCC with multiple locos

Consisting(multiple locos running together) with DCC is no problem. Just make sure that the locos are alike or at least similar in speed. The number of locos that can be consisted varies with different DCC systems but all the DCC systems I know of can do consisting.

DCC installation in Spectrum N scale 2-8-0

Thanks for the link. Not having a plug is not what I call DCC ready but what can you do?

DCC installation in Spectrum N scale 2-8-0

Anyone know where there is an installation guide for the Bachmann Spectrum N scale 2-8-0. It's engine number 2506 and came in the 24121 item number steam set. It's one of the newer ones that says it is DCC ready. I can't find a socket, and would like to know which decoders would work best in...

    Bi-Color LEDs & DCC voltages

The speed of the diode should not be a consideration. DCC is at a realtively low frequency. Most any diode should work as long as the current rating is high enough to handle the load.

    Control Panel with Indicators

lol!! We have so many "Paper" captains down here that it makes a difference. Green Cove is on the St. Johns River about 35 miles up the river from Jacksonville. Used to be a big naval air station during WW2. If I can get my scanner working with this laptop I'll at least try to draw out a...

    Control Panel with Indicators

I'm out to sea right now. It may be up to a month and a half before I get back home where I can take some pics. And yes, I'm a real captain. I run a 80' 1200 horse power tugboat.

    Control Panel with Indicators

An addendum: I painted the magnets to look like someone left a can of gas sitting on the throw bar. You could probably, with a little engineering and preplanning, put the reed switch under the track and the magnet between the tracks on the throwbar to hide it. Mine is covered with ballast and...

    Control Panel with Indicators

A suggestion for indicators for your turnouts. I am using Atlas turnouts with the AC controls. Since you can only feed current to them momentarily, and they have no contacts for indicator lights, I came up with a way to sense the physical position of the switch. Radio Shack(The Outhouse, they...

When your trains get a little kinky

I live in Green Cove Springs, Fla. in Reynolds Industrial Park. The Park was a large Naval Air Station during WW11. It's full of track, and it all looks like Eddies pic. There is a (I believe) CSX car shop on the base just a short distance from where I park my RV. The had a string of at least a...
