    Looking for ideas

I can't quite tell from the photo but I think there needs to be a road (maybe gravel or dirt) to the station from the main road. I would have suggested "beach" but it looks like there already is one! There's nothing wrong with leaving some "white space" on a layout. I would add a fairly...

The Unofficial Micro-Trains Release Report website has been updated. The July 2007 Archive Edition is now available there. UMTRR: The Unofficial Micro-Trains Release Report-Since 1996! In addition, all release tables have been updated to reflect July releases and discontinued items...

    Construction is finally underway.

I'm in violent agreement with Charles (Tillsbury) on this. Even if it's just some simple drywall or other flat, smooth surface. That having been said, did I follow my own advice? Uh, no... In addition, I learned the hard way that it's very difficult to paint a linoleum backdrop while it's...

    Maximum radius

I like and have been using almost all 19 inch radius on the visible sections of my layout: yes, sectional track, yes, Code 80, yes, it pre-dates the introduction of Atlas Code 55... yes, I'm ducking... There are a couple of places where I must cheat and use a smaller radius turn (I'll never...

    Micro Train Cars.

Actually, the door on the MTL model is technically not the right width. It should be eight feet wide, although it is a Superior Door per the prototype.

How to convert LL F40 and GP38 to Microtrains ?

I use Walthers Goo as my fixative for body mounted couplers instead of CA. I just find it a bit easier to work with. Caveat: I don't run very long trains so I have not "stress tested" this method with, say, 50 car consists...

    Micro Train Cars.

Here's the Arcade and Attica pair... on the left is the Con-Cor, from thirty plus years ago, and on the right is the recent Micro-Trains release. This was shot with available light down in the basement so the shades may be a bit off, but the Con-Cor is more orange and the MTL car is more...

    Slow roller

Welcome aboard! There is no mass produced Climax or Heisler-- at least, not yet-- but there are occassional custom made ones sold on eBay and elsewhere.

new engines being added to my rock island fleet!

Seems like something in the drive train might be misaligned. Also could be that the front truck is not properly seated into the mechanism. I don't have any of these particular locos so I can't be that specific, but I have had that issue with other models from other brands.

    Model power flextrack, code?

I also think it's Code 80, not Code 100. However, it is of less good construction and material than other brands in my opinion and I'm not sure I would use it.

    Micro Train Cars.

I did a pretty extensive writeup of the Micro-Trains Arcade and Attica boxcar in the UMTRR for June, now on the website, and another version of it for the next issue of The N Scale Collector. The story of the A&A is quite interesting! I also have the Con-Cor version. I'll see if I can do a...

    Atlas - Intermountian Compatable?

I thought that the IMRC diesels used the same chassis as the Atlas diesels, not the Kato diesels. The IMRC power is too modern for my layout so I don't follow it very closely. I think you could query IMRC directly with this question.

    Newbie: Locomotive with DCC installed?

There is the occassional CSX caboose still in existence; for example, one sits at a yard near here for use on local trains. Meanwhile-- Cheetah, I obviously don't understand where you're trying to go here. The typical starting modeler does not buy a locomotive and spray paint it black. But...

    Couplers: Rapido to Accumate

I agree with RailOhio, you'll probably need to change out the trucks. Many of the Bachmann cars have "screw in" trucks and the diameter of the hole in the floor of the car may not match the Accumate trucks. I would suggest getting only one set of trucks to try out, or maybe borrow one from a...

    Layout stuff?

You're still better off with Woodland Scenics risers. Less cubic yardage to fill in and a better chance to have an even grade vs. the pier/trestle sets.

Newbie: Does it really matter which car to buy?

Rats, I thought I had replied to this... my bad. Please note: these are just my opinions... it's your railroad... I would skip the Undecorated Bathtub Gondola... you'll get a car with no paint and no lettering, in either shiny black or gray plastic. I'd also try to get a CSX caboose to...

    Layout stuff?

Cheetah, what you've pictured is commonly called a "trestle set" or a "pier set"-- more "trestle" when it's simulating wood, as the photo shows, and more "pier" when it's simulating concrete, as in the Atlas sets in HO and N Scale. Where did you dig out that photo? I think it's an old Cox...
