Very nice work, thanks for sharing!

    Paper Decals

I remember reading this too, my guess is that it was in a magazine more than 20 years ago. I believe this was the same piece that mentioned making small signs out of the "album cover stickers" that used to come with junk mail ads for Columbia House and the like. If I recall correctly, one of...

    Paper Decals

Do you mean making signs out of paper (for example) and then gluing them to buildings? Sure, it's possible. I use Powerpoint and sometimes Word to create signs and print them out on a good quality ink jet printer. The nice thing about Powerpoint is that you can measure the size you need and...

    Just curious????

It looks fine as long as there isn't anything that can give it away close by, as noted by SD90 above. I would suggest putting it back a bit from the front of the layout as a bit of "forced perspective."

    My wee layout

Ah, I see from the photo that I'm not the only one to use a Tyco HO power pack on an N Scale layout! They do work... I powered a Unitrack test loop with one when I didn't have anything else handy. Great start... thanks for sharing!

    Great little railroad to model

Nice photos, thanks for sharing. The Battenkill is an interesting little railroad. SD90, perhaps a shortline connecting to your main line for the best of both worlds? You don't have to model the entire shortline a la the Kelly's Creek and Bradley on the previous version of the Virginian...

    The Completed Storage Tank

Nice. I'll be studying this to see how to finish the Green Max factory kit in the background (the pipes are from that kit, by the way). In Bayonne, New Jersey, there used to be goats kept near the oil tanks to "trim the vegetation." I kid you not! (No pun intended.) I wonder if there are...

    TOMIX Shinkansen

Bill, thanks for the information. I first found the Tomix track on eBay while looking for something else. I will do a bit of "comparison shopping" and then check the piggy bank... Very much appreciate the tip on the holidays also.

    TOMIX Shinkansen

Nice looking train... Can you share some details about your experience ordering from Japan-- who you used, shipping costs, etc? I may be in the market for some of the Tomix/Tomy track (they make very small radius curves!) and I'm wondering what I might be getting into...

New Building Kits headed my Way!

In a word, "no," I don't own any of these kits, sorry.

    N Scale Info

There is an Nn3 YahooGroup that might be of assistance, but you probably would need to narrow down to some specific questions.

    Here is a cool kit

Very nice... now I know it's at least possible to build these! I've heard the assembly process is, let's say "nontrivial". Did you weather the wood interior before putting it into the gondola or afterwards?

    newbees, ask before u buy

Also, they simulate the extended draft gear on couplers that is usually indicative of cushion underframes. Most of the time, the "short extension" trucks work on your basic 40 and 50 foot cars. There is the occassional exception where the "medium extension" trucks work better, for example...

    Atlas Switch problems

All wheels should work on Code 80 track. My guess is that there is some sort of obstruction on the frog (the black plastic part where the rails would cross in the center of the turnout). I've had this issue with older Atlas turnouts in the past but not recently. Try cleaning it out with...

    Father & Son's first layout

I think this is a great idea and I hope we can provide you with a lot of encouragement. Take your time, have fun and remember "it's your layout."

    Rebuilding the Old Plant

How fortitutous! I am building the same Green Max kit now and I can see how it's supposed to look. One problem though... the basic building parts were in the kit but it appears that a couple of entire sprues are missing from the box. So the detail parts like the vents that attach to the...

Parting with a prized possession & anxiety

It's a really nice model... wish I could use it. I hope you do well on the auction.

    Coupler conversion

Generally speaking, truck mounted couplers are more forgiving on the sharper curves that many of us have, while body mounted is much closer to the prototype; but it's really a matter of personal preference.

    19" radius sectional tracks

I've never actually glued track down so I can't say much about that. (I have cork roadbed over the two inch thick styrofoam, so I can just push track nails in. The track is permanently fastened down when I add ballast using the traditional "bonded ballast" method.) I do think you're...

    19" radius sectional tracks

Agree with what's posted thus far. Normally sectional track does not flex (I know because I cut notches into the tie strip under the rails to enable it to flex in certain situations.) I use 19 inch radius sectional track and I've found that I do need to be careful when laying it out to...
