Many thanks! Great work on the interior of the men's clothing store also... I took my first look at that when I downloaded the billboards.

    (Re)Introducing A1G-Atlas 1st Generation Website

The "first generation" of rolling stock imported by the Atlas Tool Company, of Hillside, New Jersey, was the backbone of N Scale layouts everywhere during the late 1960's and early 1970's. Sourced from both Rivarossi (Italy) and Roco (Austria), the Atlas "first generation" consisted of a wide...

Athearn in the N scale business ?

Athearn has done some new body styles, my favorite of those being the wood milk car in multiple attractive schemes. Much of their line is former Roundhouse/MDC tooling with new paint schemes, sometimes upgraded details, use of Accumate couplers, and significantly increased prices (not unlike...

    Finest Ballast

Of the two choices in the poll, I absolutely prefer Arizona. First, it's real rock, unlike WS which is, I'm told, ground up walnut shells; second, it's significantly finer than the WS "fine" version. I still use the WS products, but not for ballast. I do use the WS "medium" and "fine" sizes...

I thought Atlas did this scheme on an N Scale GP locomotive some time ago.

    Minitrix

That's definitely European! Clicking on the link shows that it's a German prototype. Considering that the vendor was quoting a price of US $222 it's probably worth holding on to! I'm definitely out of my element with respect to Minitrix' European offerings so I will have to defer to (I...

    Non-Proto EL Switcher

How about a Sabres logo from the appropriate time period? That would be cool... Nothing wrong with following Rule #1 (It's Your Railroad)!

    Minitrix

Any chance of posting photos or scans? Are the trains European or North American roadnames? Some Minitrix North American prototype trains and some Minitrix track were marketed by Aurora under the "Postage Stamp" brand in the 1970's. That may be another avenue to explore in terms of finding...

Hello, now is the time to introduce myself.

Welcome aboard! Same general story... different generation. I began with an Atlas "First Generation" train set in 1969. The rest... is fairly alarming!

    Foam and flex-track

I use 2 inch extruded foam as a base -- no plywood underneath as I've found it's not needed. I use Midwest Cork Roadbed and Atlas Code 80 track. Plain old track nails work just fine for me.

Out with rapido..best MT way to go????

Accumate trucks are slighly lower cost alternatives, but my experience has been that you get what you pay for. MTL sells bulk packs of trucks and couplers; 20 pair to do ten cars. The street price works out to the range of around $3.50 per car. The most likely replacement would be...

New Old Photos of the Previous Layout

I just posted a new page to the Wilmington and New York Railroad section of my website with some recently unearthed photos of the previous version of the layout, circa the early 1990's. This is the layout that immediately preceded the version that I am working on now, in our former home a...

Base for N scale buildings ?

I've used cork, foam core, styrene, "recycled" cardboard from mailing boxes received... whatever's handy, works, and looks right.
