How do I chop nose an n scale engine?

I want to model the SD9s after they received a chop nose, using an atlas or life like sd9, but am afraid to do it. should I buy a low nose engine and replace part of the body with an SD9 shell? anybody chop an engine nose before?

    Locating turnouts for best operation

How about... Something like this... I like the fact that now you have a origination (union station), and 2 destinations (suburban stations). You have 2 layers of scenery, wide curves, tunnels (all tunnels that I go through at work are single tracked now). You get to play dispatcher by...

    rethinking

very good. Very similar to my old drawings and older layouts (did you steal this from my notebook? ha). Only suggestion is a long passing siding in the right side hidden area to store a westbound, until the eastbound is done working. looks good.

    Locating turnouts for best operation

lots of switches Personally, I could never afford the 30+ switches. Some of the yard tracks are very short. You also would be constantly leaning over a busy mainline to couple/uncouple/rerail in that yard. Also you have a lot of yard, but no industries to switch. A good rule of thumb: have 1...

Thinking Of Converting To N Gauge

n scale steam All I know is you get what you pay for, especially with steam. I forgot, I bought a bachmann (not spectrum) steam engine. Looked sharp, ran jerky, and forget slow speeds. I hear good things about the specrum series though ( probably twice as pricey as regular bachman). my $.02

Building the Walthers N scale Blast Furnace

bottle cars Only bottle cars are through that peach creek shop that I & others complained about on another forum that got deleted. $35. per resin bottle car that was hard for me to put together (became a static model cause the trucks were loose and derailed). I see walthers is making the...

Thinking Of Converting To N Gauge

Why I like N gauge Hi. I switched from HO to N about 4 years ago, and would never change. In a small area (10' x 11'), I have a layout with a couple different yards, long trains, open scenery, etc. In HO, I would have only been able to model less than 1/2 of what I have now. In O gauge...

    LTEX decals???

Ltex I go by Larry's everyday (it's on our mainline in McDonald, Ohio). I have yet to see 2 engines painted the same! I would say almost any block lettering would work, or even woodland scenics dry transfers.

    Third attempt HO layout

Crossovers in yard tracks In all of the yards I worked, the only one that has crossovers on yard tracks is in Willard Ohio, and is so the yard job can shove tracks up to the hump. It is usually blocked by cars, as mentioned, so removing them is the best idea. In New Castle yard, we use a spur...

    N Scale Union Railroad

North Bessemer yard Well, hard to call it a yard with only 4 tracks, but it'll due for now. 2 north bound, 2 southbound tracks above the town of North Bessemer (missing houses, I need lots of houses). I'm keeping this area in summer colors, too much work to change it to the fall.

Universal pa The main grade (2% north, 4% south in tunnel) takes us into Universal Pa, home of the long abandoned cement plant. The North Bessemer tunnel is still under construction, in a sea of pink foam and sculptamold.
