Why is the TH&B so popular?

Thanks, this is interesting background info. There is a good TH&B historical society (http://www.thbrailway.ca/) and I've occasionally seen their displays at train shows. I think I'll try to get in touch with them -- they were quite friendly and helpful when I stopped by their booth (at a...

Why is the TH&B so popular?

Thanks, Lance (and welcome aboard too!). These are good points. So basically, by modelling the TH&B, you can legitimately run a good mixture of locos and stock on your layout. I model British trains as well, and there was a line in SW England (called the Somerset & Dorset line) that was...

    New Model Railroader !!

Congratulations !!! My youngest son, who is now 5, was exposed to trains from his earliest days and has always liked them! So maybe the same thing will happen with your grandson? Rob

    Are you a model railroader?

This sounds feasible and logical to me. However, whenever I mention such things to my wife, she rolls her eyes and gives me an "are-you-crazy" look ...:confused:

Why is the TH&B so popular?

Thanks! I was wondering if the fact that the fact that it served a highly-populated area was part of the reason. There is a good TH&B historical society that I've run into at some train shows, so perhaps I'll try to google that as well. I run a few of my Dad's old/basic TH&B box cars on my...

    Are you a model railroader?

Thanks, Les. That's almost the situation with my layout. "Improvement" is a good word, as in "refining," etc. Rob

Why is the TH&B so popular?

My Dad (who passed away 9 years ago) was a huge railway fan and he often talked about the TH&B and was very fond of it. I've also heard several MRR folks talking about and modeling the TH&B (Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo railway). I'm just curious as to why this is such a popular railway...

    Are you a model railroader?

You're right -- it wouldn't be any fun if it was finished!

    Are you a model railroader?

My layout is definitely operable but is about 80-90% finished (I'm still finishing some scenery), so I voted for the first choice. I hope it's never actually "finished" as I want to keep tweaking it, adding more detail, changing a few things every now and then, etc. I even recently added...

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

Thanks, Wayne and Andrew. I'm mainly interested in the March 1980 issue. Wayne, if it's too tricky to scan your copy, please just let me know. I'll check with Andrew then. I look forward to seeing your thread in the future. Cheers, Rob

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

Thanks, Wayne. I appreciate your feedback. I wonder if it's possible to order those old MRs from the publisher? I've also found several J-7a (and J-7b and J-7c) pics online as well as in one of my CNR books. My loco will probably end up roughly looking like one of the J-7s! All the best...

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

My wife & kids were out this evening, so I made good progress with this conversion tonight. I worked for almost 4 hours and added the Cal-scale feedwater heater (or at least part of it), white trim along the running boards and wheels, red trim around the cab, plus some weathering &...

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

Thanks for the USRA pic above, Wayne! There is a an interesting (and timely!) article in the August MR that explains how you can convert a basic steam model into your favourite prototype. This article explains how to cut and remove your loco's previous plastic plumbing and side detail...

Curious Site From VIA Train Today

Thanks, David. Interesting! I've heard from a reliable source that the West Coast Railway Association has acquired these units and are trying to raise the money to have them delivered. The Southern Ontario Locomotive Restoration Society / Waterloo Central Railway seems to be doing well...

Curious Site From VIA Train Today

My son and I took a VIA train from Toronto to Woodstock today. Somewhere around Mississauga or Burlington [just west of Toronto], we saw a very interesting site just south of the train. There were two vintage diesels and 1-2 coaches -- all were painted in CN 1950s green/gold/black colours...

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

Thanks, Wayne. I'll try that technique for the wheels then. I'll also consider the Bachmann tender. Is rigging your own wiring system difficult? Rob

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

Well, that's what the box details said. But, not being an expert on Sante Fe Pacifics, you never know exactly how accurate a model this was -- maybe AHM, who made this model some 30 years ago, wasn't correct with all the details?
