    CNR 0-4-0 Steam Switchers?

Thanks, Andrew! I'm interested in the tender version -- it appears that it was removed in 1924? If you haven't already guessed why I'm asking this question, it's this: I have an old AHM 0-4-0 Santa Fe switcher that I'm thinking of converting to CN!

    CNR 0-4-0 Steam Switchers?

Just wondering if anyone knows if CNR ever had small 0-4-0 switchers? I've done a little research on this and, so far, I haven't found any 0-4-0 examples. Thanks, Rob

    North American mags folding

Interesting -- thanks, Russ. You make good points about the regional nature of our hobby. I can relate. When I read MRR or other mags, I usually have to adopt many of the articles to the region that I'm modelling. Magazines having a lot of articles on desert scenery & desert layouts...

    North American mags folding

Interesting -- now I remember hearing about this one via The Gauge. It looks like it's completely online, although you can download articles as you need them. I must tell my source about this! Cheers, Rob

    North American mags folding

Thanks, Wayne. Sounds like it was a good magazine but a bit technical at times. It will be interesting to see what others have to say about the history of the other magazines. I know as well that it's hard to keep up with 4-5 mags a month, both in terms of having enough time to read them, as...

    North American mags folding

I've heard that 3 North American MRR magazines have recently folded -- Model Railroad Hobbyist, Mainline Modeler and Model Railroading Magazine. Only the last one sounds vaguely familiar to me, as I generally read MR and Canadian Railway Modeller (plus 2-3 British ones). Apparently, these...

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

You're welcome! I plan to tweak it and upgrade it but I think I'll take a break from it for awhile. I'll do this in phases. Thanks, Rob

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

OK, I now realize what the difference-in-black issue is. I had used some gloss paint to paint out the previous numbers and decals. I used this on the sides of the cab as well as the sides of the tender. After I spray-painted the tender with some clear flat paint, the gloss effect disappeared...

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

Thanks for your feedback, Wayne! I sure appreciate this. I've responded below, to your comments: I think you may regret not adding the piping when you did the work - to add it later will require that you remove the components to drill them to accept the wire, putting you right back to...

    almost gave up

This sounds like a great idea -- I think I'll try this when I get a chance. [Psst -- Have you have a chance to check my new pics on my "Rivarossi kit-bashing" thread? Thanks!] Cheers, Rob

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

Here are a couple more pix. Again, these pics catch the gist of how it looks but they seem to exaggerate the imperfections! It looks much better running on the layout from a distance of a few feet. I'm open to criticism! The one pic shows my GP-9 in the background --...

    almost gave up

Welcome back! I must admit, I'm also having a bit of frustration now ... After typing in www.the-gauge.com the usual list of recent MRR postings no longer comes up. Instead, a list of all hobby/Zealot forum postings appears & I have to sort or wade through it till I find The Gauge/MRR section...

OK, here are a couple pics. I have a few others as well. It's not perfect but feedback is welcome! (The pics seem to magnify the imperfections!) Thanks, Rob

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

I'm still interested but Andrew was going to copy it. I guess whichever is most convenient or easy. I sure appreciate Andrew's offer to scan it but if it's easy for you to copy it maybe that would be better? ... Andrew is this OK if you haven't copied it yet? Meanwhile, I took some pics of...

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

Thanks, Andrew! Sure, I'd still be interested in the article as I will probably tweak this upgrade somewhat in the future. I'm on the fence, though, about doing any further major changes such as repositioning the running boards and the domes, etc. I can't bring myself to start literally...

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

This conversion project is coming along quite well now. As mentioned, I'm not repositioning the running boards (at least not yet) but I believe I've at least captured a good CNR "feeling" or impression. So far, I have: -- painted red trim around windows, added the Elesco feedwater heater...

    Are you a model railroader?

Thanks, Bob. It sounds like its quite portable and solid. I look forward to following your project as it develops. Rob

    Are you a model railroader?

I'm interested in this size/type of layout because it would not take up much space -- it could be nicely positioned against a wall and not stick out too far. Plus, it could be conveniently built on a sheet of 2x8 insulation board -- is that what you're using? It would be light-weight and be...
