Do you belong to the NMRA ?

I'm NOT a member but am sort of interested in joining. My reasons for not joining are: -- I'm already a member of one model railway group and two heritage railways, so I'm telling myself that's enough (I have a tendency to want to join everything!). -- although I have a good collection of...

    Next Loblaws/PC Trainset?

I'm not that surprised. But I won't hold you to this! I have a hunch you're right.

    New Electric Lines in Canada?

Thanks! Learn something new every day! Cheers, Rob

    New Electric Lines in Canada?

I'm curious because I had never heard of this railway before -- I just did a quick Google search and so know very little about it. Rob

    New Electric Lines in Canada?

Thanks, Squidbait. AMT is a French railway, right? Cheers, Rob

    Next Loblaws/PC Trainset?

Just wondering if anyone has heard if Loblaws/Present's Choice will be releasing a new Canadian train set this Christmas? I haven't heard a thing about this and haven't seen any ads, so maybe they've stopped doing this for awhile? I ask this question every year but I'm still curious! Recent...

    Childhood train influence?

I can sort relate to this. My Dad was a huge RR fan so I was constantly exposed to railway influences as a kid. My fondest memories of rail-fanning with my Dad, waving to the train crew and watching for various road names on freight cars. Also, as per my avatar, I enjoyed operating his layout...

    Smoking Steam Engine?

Thanks, Les. I think I'll try that method as well. Rob

    Smoking Steam Engine?

Thanks, David. Guess I'll have to settle for aluminum though! I'll try this method. I've experimented with both LaBelle oil and Wahl. Both seem to work well. Several folks on this forum and Dave Morgan formerly of Railview Trains swear by Wahl so I gave it a try again. The pin idea...

    Smoking Steam Engine?

That's almost certainly what happened then -- I tend to be too heavy-handed with these things! I'll try to use a fraction of a drop next time. Thanks! Rob

    Smoking Steam Engine?

Two nights ago I lubricated one of my old British 00 (similar to HO) locos with Wahl oil and I was amazed at how smoothly & quietly it ran afterwards. (This is a Hornby Dublo loco made in the early '60s.) When I ran it again tonight, it continued to run well although I had to often wipe up...

    New Electric Lines in Canada?

Thanks, David. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, comes from this proposal. Maybe I should actually buy this issue of CRM -- I was simply skimming through it at George's Trains the other day! Cheers, Rob

    New Electric Lines in Canada?

I was skimming through Canadian Railway Modeller the other day and saw a short note saying that Canadian Pacific was doing research on electrifying the CP and CN networks in Canada. The blurb said that, in the short-term, this would cost huge amounts of money but would have great long-term...

    The Regression of Model Railroading

This is an interesting topic and thread. I've only skimmed a few of the first entries and would like to ponder it more. Here are a few rambling comments: I recently read in a British MRR magazine that, 40-50 years ago, the hobby was more focussed on operation with a group of people...

    Childhood train influence?

Yes, there's NOTHING like a steam engine, with its hissing, spraying, whistle, chuffing, etc.

    Childhood train influence?

I can pretty much relate to this and agree. Instead of Lionel, etc., I had some Hornby-Dublo -- which is sort of the British equivalent although it is similar to HO scale. Railroads certainly featured prominently in my childhood. I also really enjoy history and the historical side of railroads.

    Childhood train influence?

I also just realized that this may be an "unnecessary or circular" question -- I think most of us train folks are kids at heart!

    Childhood train influence?

Wow -- that's impressive! It's neat to have that continuity. I just realized that I have at least two locos, that belonged to my Dad, that I remember running with him when I was a kid. And both my sons and I have run & used these, so I guess we've reached the third-generation mark as well...

    Childhood train influence?

I hope this isn't a silly or goofy question, I'm just curious ... MRR or train-related stuff is definitely a nostalgic thing for me, bringing back all sorts of good memories -- my avatar even suggests this!

    Childhood train influence?

One of the reasons -- perhaps the main reason -- why I like model trains and real trains so much is because of fond childhood memories of rail-fanning with my Dad and operating his layout. Had my Dad not been such a huge railway fan, I may not have had an interest in trains at all today...
