    Sanding facilities

Gary, December 1958 MR, there's a construction article by Jack Work for a CP sand house and tower. This is part of the beginning of the article: "The semi-enclosed area is used for storing the raw wet sand. The sand is transferred to the dry house for drying over a small coal fired burner...

    Appalachian WV NG logging?

Drew, nice work!, all the way around! WVM_nut, it may not be narrow gauge, but Mower lumber, AKA Cass Scenic railway, would be a good prototype to draw inspiration from. There is some impressive scenery there to model, and operate a railroad in. I have a couple of photos of the Greenbrier...

    Shamus - Health update

It was Paul who first asked me to be a moderator here. It was Paul who "coaxed" me into building an HO scale "bobber caboose" which I sent him. It was one of his "sales" that enabled me to acquire one of his locomotives, pictured here. Paul, I have kept, and will continue to keep this safe. I...

Mixing old and new model trains?

Much of the rolling stock I run, is from kits I built 50+ years ago. I've updated trucks and couplers, but the rest is as it was then. My favorite loco, which I have posted enough pics of here, my standard gauge 2-4-4-2, I purchased 40 years ago. I have more diesels than I would admit to, and...

    Looks familiar?

Dan, Looks similar to the EMD SD-60 Demo scheme, which I used for my BL20-2's (scheme, not color)

    Kansas City Southern Grain Hoppers

Rockislandmike, Haven't seen you around here in a while, good to see you! While I was still working at a hobby shop, Our relationship with Horizon was excellent! They were always willing to work with us, and were understanding of our particular needs. I am, just a little curious to know why...

    On Track, with Deano

Steve, It is a great place! IRM is about 1-1/4 hours (worst time) from my home, and I get out there occasionally. What I like most is the availability of "prototype" to study for any of the models I'm working on. Deano, great pics! In the shot of CNW #411, the depot is out of frame to the...

    N scale radius versus HO

Just as a matter of interest......or not. A "sweeping 72" radius curve, in HO, is a 10.5 degree curve in "prototype". A "not so sweeping 16.6" radius curve, in HO, is a 45 degree curve in "prototype". The Uintah Railway, 3' gauge, in Baxter Pass, had a 66 degree curve. *Degree of curve is...

    McCabe Sawmill, Pump House

This Sawmill has to take up a large "tract of real estate". I would very much like to see this on an N-trak module. My small ( 287' X 84' )(21.5" X 6.25") Drydock' and the surrounding concrete apron with access track, and cranes, took up a full quarter of the 2' X 4' module, and left little...

Nicely built kit! This Saw Mill kit is a nice product. I know what it is to design a kit like that, and you've done it justice with this build. Pete

Any hobby- level children- oriented passenges starter sets in H0e?

I do not know of any passenger starter sets in HOe. That doesn't mean there are none, but I haven't seen any. If there are no sets available, you will have to kitbash, or scratch build. HOn30 is a possible option, HO scale, using N scale mechanisms, and trucks (wheelsets). In any case, I would...

Steel mill building...What do I do with it?

I downloaded, and ran the pic in Corel photopaint, to lighten the interior. I could not get a really clear view, it's just too dark. There is an almost white area behind and to the left, that appears to continue on the right side of the building. I would say there is a wall at the back of the...

Using N gauge track/equipment on HO layout

Z track, is commonly used for Nn3. Typically, eighteen inch gauge light rail track is used in the mine, so Z would be too big. Nn3, could be used from the mine to the standard gauge interchange/transshipment point.

Turn tables large enough for the "Bigboy", were rare indeed. Also, considering the original use of these locos, there were only a couple of places where they needed to be turned. Yes, this table would take a lot of space. So also would a wye! The big difference is that a wye could be layed...
