 I've never done anything "wrong". No, I'm not bragging, I've made mistakes, I've trashed kits, I've had to go out and buy another. I've broken drill bits, dinged the cutting edge of my rail nippers, broken jewelers saw blades, and for that matter, a number of #11 Xacto...

    Ship in a layout itch...

I was too young, in the fifties, to be aware of what ships were where. It's not beyond the realm of believability to consider a decommissioned Fletcher, being part of a museum display, or possibly, one making a port call for a recruiting promotion.

Logging East Tennessee on the C&S RR

I can feel for that! 21 years in the Navy, my left hand is still configured for holding a coffee cup!

I thought that was the one. This last Trainfest, in addition to my standard three HO modules, I also had a N module set up with the Milwaukee Area N trak group. It was the one with the drydock, and the two track bascule lift bridge. Getting all that taken down, and off the floor, and then...

A "circle", that has an automatic reversing loop built in so that the train alternates direction through the scene would be a thing worth having. Might be easier with DCC. Simpler even yet would be two trains alternating in opposite directions. All this with the "reverse", or the "change" hidden...

Logging East Tennessee on the C&S RR

I'm going to have to run my "Cass" video. I remember seeing that tank, but not exactly where it was on the line.

If this is the display I'm thinking of, it was mostly unscenicked, and was originally HOn3. It's been two, maybe three years since the guy made the move from HO, to On30. Yes, I display there, with the Lake County Society of Modular Engineers. I have three modules, HO, with HOn3 on an upper...

Like a rat from a sinking ship

Hey!, When ships sink, rats leave to survive...we all need air to breathe! I see mention of "blue sky". Interesting, this. Never have I seen a sky as blue as that in the eye of a hurricane. The trip in was frightening, the trip out was abject terror, but the few moments of peace...

Read this if you are having problems on Zealot

Maybe. The email notification of this post came from "Zealot Forum", not from The-Gauge. So, in that, at least, my old "home" is gone.

I do like your inclusion of prototype photos. It may not be immediately obvious to the casual observer, but it shows just how effective the practice of observing the prototype, before modeling it, can be, in making the model scene so much more real. Keep up the good work!

All that, on a budget....well, I think step one should be to go to the top of the page and click on "search", enter the topic...continuous run, or scenery, or switching, and see what has already been discussed here. I think you will find a considerable number of choices. You will also find other...

    Scratch build

That beats the heck out of my first "serious" scratchbuild.....the top caboose in this pic: It was built from balsa, hand scribed, hand cut strip, more than a few years ago. The middle, built in 1968 using scribed basswood, and basswood strip. The bottom, built in 1998, using scribed...

Taking the above in consideration, can you be a bit more specific, as to what you need advise on? You have been involved with multiple scales, and gauges, so I could only guess that perhaps manufacturers, market availability, or prototypes? Pete

The light at the end of the tunnel

"We have but one choice now, we must face the long dark of Moria"-Gandalf The "magic light"? For now it will have to be faith. The "quick fix"? Nothing worth fixing, can be fixed quickly. The "one at the end of the tunnel"? Is the "magic light", and for now it will take patience...

    What rules?

The answer, Kevinkrey, is, all things change. For my own part, things went off in a direction I was unwilling to go. The new owners have their own concept of what this site should be, and they have every right to. I disagreed with their vision, and could not bring myself to remain a part of it...

    Movin' on...

Mountainman, I can't speak for the others, but I think my explanation was as truthful as it could be. (and it still might get me kicked out of here, but I had to say, what I had to say) The move to Zealot was the beginning of the end for me. The site was Too Big, and in the end too slow, and...

    Eight Bells, I stand relieved

Those of you who know me, can see that I am no longer a moderator here. I have done this work for something like six years, and have enjoyed keeping this little corner of the world a comfortable place to visit, and exchange ideas, and accomplishments. I wouldn't trade the experience for...

Logging East Tennessee on the C&S RR

The owner of the Sag Harbor Shipbuilding & Drydock Co. had a long standing "difference" with his mayor. The end result was, the shipyard could not get the property needed to ease a curve, and the Baldwin outside frame 2-8-0, had to become an outside frame 2-4-4-2. The "mayor" is long gone, the...
